Not really, if they are closely located, I think in general people tend to buy the same goods in supermarkets, I normally make a note of prices, take advantage of special offers, that sort of thing.

I only take advantage of special offers on items I know I will DEFINITELY use. It's not a bargain if it's something you never buy or are indifferent to.

i really dont like tescos for shopping and price , during the boom i pick up some crumbed ham , 4 slices , they wanted 6.04 :eek: for 4 slices !!!
    just a rip off
i have HALVED my family's weekly shopping bill by doing my shop
at aldi , local fruit and veg shop and my very very good butchers ,
quality is 100% better , 2 of the shop are local business so helps local economy

rant time : my local tescos has a massive car park , all the wheelchair and parent and child spots are close 2 the doors , the amount of ignorant ****ers that park in them that should not is un believable , the rest of the car park is empty but because they dont want to walk the extra 50 feet they just park SIDEWAYS on these spots ggggrrrrr:mad::mad:
i said it 2 the manager and i swear he made scoobydoo noises and ****ed off , gob****e

dont be lazy and shop local , it may take longer but better for all concerned , **** tescos from a height :D

Why, yes. Yes it bloody well is. I absolutely hate the fact that I can't get everything I want in one supermarket:mad:. Nothing worse than having to go two or three places to pick up stuff. Mostly go to local Tesco, but my one doesn't have a great selection of stuff, as compared to the one in the bigger town 20mins drive away. So usually end up in Supervalu as well, for goddamn simple stuff that should be in Tesco dammit! And then the bloody butchers, as Tesco meat is mostly s**t. And then sometimes there is something i need that isn't in Tesco or Supervalu and I have to pick it up in Dunnes when I'm in town. Jesus Christ I F**CKING hate shopping. My blood pressure is rising just thinking about it:mad:.

Heads off to put kettle on for calming cup of tea, before head explodes....

Ireland seems to be Tesco's little earner on the side.

It is, only S Korea has higher margins in their empire

I was told recently (By a Tesco staff member that I used to work with) that because the Irish head office has been got rid of, a lot of the back office duties are carried out in India.

When the UK budget VAT changes were introduced, the Indian office mistakenly applied the UK changes to the Irish stores resulting in mayhem in stores here.

A lot of Tesco staff won't even shop in Tesco here now!

Yes, but you could have got an exchange, which does not go by the 28 day rule (that's refunds). I do know, I worked there for years. The policy is the same in all of them. But, they don't do the policy tesco do where if the item hasn't been updated in the till, you get your money back at custome service.

I also agree with shopping around, to get the best deals from Local Butchers, Aldi etc.
as prices started to creep up slowly but surely in Tesco's.

I find Tesco to be very good. I go in buy what I need and leave.
Why do Irish people always have to make such a big deal of the simple things in life. If you don't like the price on an item then don't buy it.

it's been downscaled but is still there in DL. Those Indian people are useless, it was a chore to deal with them

Agreed, certainly so if you are shopping for a family. Deli is 'MAD' expensive. They dont have much in large sizes of anything, and the odd price check sign isn't very convincing at all.
Ive resorted to, Butchers, Fruit and Veg shops and Markets, with the odd visit to Dunnes/Aldi/Lidl.
Ive always found Tesco a bit 'underhand', with the two for one twin packs taking the biscuit, i.e. more expensive than buying two individual items. 2 litre bottles of Coke etc being a good example.

Why anybody would shop at Tescos or Dunnes is beyond me anyway.

Aldi and Lidl stuff is cheaper and more often than not better.

OMG im DELIGHTED they got caught- some heads on them! I dont shop there anymore. They are scam artists to the highest level. I work by a list and i know how much my shopping normally is and when i noticed my shopping was up 10e a week i had a look around.

Loo roll had jumped up 50c in a week, butter had gone up 65c in a week, wine had gone up 1euro, the 2 sprite for 3.00 was now 2 for 3.50(and the twin pack was 3.95- justify that?)And that was only a few items

I spoke to the manager and i got nothing but clap trap off him, so i handed him my basket and walked out of the shop and i have not been back since. My friends all slagged me but then they started noticing it too and now they dont shop there either.

My sister went in few weeks to buy easter eggs saw a hello kitty one for 5.99 and picked it up, went in to get more last week and they had gone up to 8.49 (buy 1 get 1 free) but she only needed one egg, and they refused to give her 1 for the orginal price even though they admitted it had been 5.99 weeks before. She walked out too

Im so happy they have been caught

I'm sure some people find its rewarding to do business with the mafia too without looking at the overall picture.

Just like criminal politicans its no harm to keep an eye on businesses that rip people off. We caould always take the "why make a big deal of it" attitude but look at the mess thats gotten the country into.

Watch the prices go higher as we approach Easter, and people rush out to buy what remainder there is.

I buy what i want when i want, no people or shops force me to buy anything at anytime. Is it different for everyone else?

Whatever's the closest gets my business, I do not hold loyalties to companies and frankly don't care enough about 5c cheaper for something to walk extra for it.

That must have been the attitude of all the people I used to see doing their weekly shop in the local branch of Spar, back when I was living in Dublin...

One day, a bunch of school kids were interviewing shoppers there about their shopping habits. When asked why they chose to shop at Spar, one "lady" actually told them she doesn't have the money for the bus to get to a cheaper shop (the next Tescos was two bus stops down on the same road).
Boggles the mind, it really does.

i have never set foot inthe place since..and i recommend no one does.

Maybe he thought you'd used a bit of the deodorant and then you were going to make a sandwich and a cup of tea, return the milk in exchange for a newspaper and then return the read paper in exchange for some washing up liquid and then do the dishes, return the washing up liquid for some washing powder and then one your laundry is done return it for a floor cleaner and when you'd cleaned the floor return it for some Mr. Muscle Bathroom cleaner which once used you'd return for a six pack of Polish beer as a treat after your days exertion.

In fairness to the manager in question he is under no obligation to exchange goods which aren't faulty, just because you wanted to swap it for something else. I'm not the biggest Tesco fan but I wonder if this would have happened in other shops too.

im not a big fan of tesco but they arent scamming people with 2 for 1's etc. you look at the price of a two for one then look at the price of 2 separates. and weigh them up. its just business, to hope people will automatically think theyre getting a better deal with 'specials' etc. its like shopping psychology. you need your wits about you!
but thats true even in aldi and lidl. they have specials and the 'goodies' section which just draws most shoppers in for a look.

the petrol pump charges though. thats just wrong

an attempt at humour which falls down at the first assumption..the deodorant wasnt opened..it was a double pack ..seeeeee

now go off to tecos, buy your cheapo sausages, and feel ripped off anyway.
my god i cannot even bear looking at the people in there, staff or customers..
you can see the desperation..along with the unknowing eyes.

please let some huge misfortune befall tescos before i die.

I havent had any problem with tesco's. I also dont take notice of the media side either "1000's of price cuts" etc.
It always works out cheaper than shopping at these so called irish supermarkets. But I'll only get certain things there.

I've read this ENTIRE thread, you keep mentioning how Dunnes return stuff ALL THE TIME. Well, you should have gone to bloody Dunnes!

I'm sorry to hear your wallet was lost, sorry you didn't get your unopened deoderant returned for a few slices of humanity, but for crying out loud you swear the Tesco manager just slept with your girlfriend and stole your wallet on the way out of your house.

Take it on the chin. Don't shop in Tesco. Enjoy your weekend.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,800 ✭✭✭Aishae

the 22 saving - im wondering if that is
    1. the same list of items you got last time you went - which cost 22 euro less this time
    2. if that was 22 'saved' on misc. specials and 2 for ones and so on.

if its the latter its only really a saving if its stuff you needed anyway. or things you know youll need next week (bit of pasta sauce 'on special' instead of the usual friday night pork chops )

    Deep breaths there lad!

Calm down now, I don't work in Tesco's or know anyone who does work for Tesco's. Just because I'm not agreeing with you entirely, doesn't mean I work for Tesco, maybe YOU should open your mind a little. :pac:

The person who stole your wallet prevented you from eating a very hearty, nutritious dinner that night. Milk and bread sounds absolutely stunning mate!
Next time you get your wallet nicked, come on to boards and I'll see that someone can give you a can of beans or something.

But in all serious-ness, try not let it get you too down. There are bigger and badder things in the world. If you let the little things get you down you'll just explode. You're freaking out at people who aren't even defending Tesco but not 100% agreeing with you.

Anyway, please don't reply to me but do calm down a little. :)
