Some more details on allotments and Balbriggan Allotment and its Pig rearing venture.

    0.32.39 'Fingal Allotment Strategy
    0.47.50 Balbriggan Allotment Scheme

I never knew the Socialists party was so interested in Allotments and particularly in how the Balbriggan Allotment Association was elected. Might I suggest you name the Pigs, Napoleon, Snowball & Squealer.:D

Got myself one of the Skerries allotments. Delighted. So the email doesn't go into a black hole, they're just too busy to get back to people I suppose. :)

I was thinking along the lines of Rashers, Sausages & Pudding myself but your suggestion is noted. :p

With all this good weather my fingers are itching to get stuck in. The approval by the Council is only 1 step. We are still awaiting a decision on a major part of the funding from the Fingal Leader Partnership. This does mean though that even if the funding is declined (although fingers crossed it won't be) the allotment scheme will still go ahead but on a much smaller scale.

Fantastic news, I'm delighted to hear that. Happy growing & eating!

Funding has been granted by the Leader Partnership (after a delay) and construction due to start shortly. I'd expect we'll be in by Sept at the latest but given how drawn out things have been so far I won't be holding my breath. ;)

Anyone heard back from Fingal Co.Co. regarding applications for allotments in Balbriggan? I sent mine early April and still no word...

    FINALLY

I get to update this thread!

The press release on the matter is here.

There will be an Open Day on Saturday 20th October next on site. You can earn up to a 25% discount on your allotment rental for 2013 by joining in the meitheal on the day.

The purpose of the day is to get the allotments finished with community volunteer hours (a condition of the grant of funding). Once the allotment scheme is completed & it should be on the day, holders can move straight in and start winter prepping and sowing.

I know it's not ideal, we were hoping to be in far before this date but it's finally completed. We will move the first herd of pigs onto the site in the Spring.

I hope to see a couple of boardsies there. Don't be afraid to say hello. Some of ye know me already but if you're unsure as to who I am just drop me a DM!

There are a few plots still available so it would be best to get in now so as to get the one you want.

The pigs arrived today. There are still plots on this (public) scheme available to rent. Official ribbon cutting on Sat next 2-4pm. Fab photo looking North taken this afternoon by Sunday Times Gardening Correspondent.

Live interview or already in the can?

In the can. Not 100% sure if it's today or tomorrow as it depends on space.
