Dunno if this is allowed but RIP Deirder McCarthy.
    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/woman-beaten-to-death-in-her-home-by-man-she-knew-well-2606535.html

    For people on mobiles
A woman whose body was washed up on a Co Clare beach on Thursday was beaten to death in her home shortly after a night out with friends in a pub.

Gardai believe Deirdre McCarthy (43) was subjected to a violent attack by a local man she had known well for more than a decade.

Officers investigating her murder were last night following a definite line of inquiry as they awaited the results of a post-mortem by assistant state pathologist Dr Khalid Jabber at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.

An initial examination indicated she had been beaten and possibly strangled.

Gardai have established that Ms McCarthy was dropped back to her home, Turlough House in Ballyvaughan, Co Clare, at 11.30pm on Sunday after socialising with a group of friends in a local pub.

She was alone in the house later when a man, known to her, called there.

Gardai are satisfied that she was killed in the house after a row and her body was then taken away in a car, sometime before 7am.

They believe the car headed along the Lisdoonvarna Road and Ms McCarthy's body was then dumped in the sea.

It was found washed ashore on Fanore Beach, about 15km from Ballyvaughan, on Thursday morning.

Gardai recovered her mobile phone on Wednesday during a search along the stretch of roadway leading from the house to the sea and think it was thrown out of the car by her killer.

Meanwhile. the village of Ballyvaughan was still reeling from the shock of Ms McCarthy's murder yesterday.

It was too much for most locals to bear as they shunned media invitations to talk about the hard-working 43-year-old single woman.

Ms McCarthy's sister Christina said that neither she nor any member of the family would be commenting on their horrendous loss. "I have nothing to say," she told the Irish Independent. Neighbours likewise were keeping their thoughts to themselves.

But one longtime resident of Ballyvaughan who knows the family said the discovery of Ms McCarthy's body on the beach at Fanore was "the worst ever".

Declining to be identified, he asked that the family would be left in peace.

Last night investigators appealed to anyone who travelled along that road between 11.30pm on Sunday and 7am on Monday to contact them.

Garda press officer Superintendent John Gilligan said yesterday a number of people had already come forward with information and they were appealing to others to make contact. He said they believed the answers to the investigation lay within the small community.

Gardai are expecting to spend the weekend analysing the post- mortem findings, as well as studying a report on the traffic on Ms McCarthy's mobile phone, particularly in the hours before her death, and examining the result of an examination on two cars that were seized during the week.

    Progress

Officers are confident they will make significant progress over the next few days.

The search for Deirdre began on Monday evening after she had been reported missing and involved gardai, the Doolin and Killaloe units of the Irish Coast Guard as well as the Shannon- based rescue helicopter, teams from the Search and Rescue Dog Association of Ireland from Clare, Cork and Meathand members of the Irish Red Cross.

Ms McCarthy is survived by her mother Helen, brother Tom and sisters Helen, Christina, Bernie and Ann.

An incident room has been set up at Ennistymon Garda station and investigators there can be contacted at 065 7072180.

I can't believe something like this could happen in Ballyvaughan. The world is going crazy. My sincere condolences to her family, especially her mother Helen, and I hope the person responsible is brought to justice quickly.

    RIP

Linking to a national newspaper to start a debate is allowed of course, but I would like to ask that people realise that this is a recent tragedy in the area and a lot of people are affected, I would ask that any speculation as to what happened or who did what is kept to a minimum, I would ask that other posters follow mahamageehad's example and quote sources if you want to speculate on anything.

    Thanks

I would like to pass on my sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of the late, Deirdre McCarthy.

The late, John O'Donohue Poet and Philosopher was native of North Clare and I feel his words may offer more comfort than mine at this very sad time for Deirdre's family and her community.

On the death of the Beloved by John O'Donohue
    (1956 - 2008)

Though we need to weep your loss,
You dwell in that safe place in our hearts,
Where no storm or might or pain can reach you.

Your love was like the dawn
    Brightening over our lives
    Awakening beneath the dark
    A further adventure of colour.

    The sound of your voice
    Found for us
    A new music
    That brightened everything.

Whatever you enfolded in your gaze
    Quickened in the joy of its being;
    You placed smiles like flowers
On the altar of the heart.
    Your mind always sparkled
    With wonder at things.

Though your days here were brief,
Your spirit was live, awake, complete.

We look towards each other no longer
    From the old distance of our names;
Now you dwell inside the rhythm of breath,
As close to us as we are to ourselves.

Though we cannot see you with outward eyes,
We know our soul's gaze is upon your face,
Smiling back at us from within everything
To which we bring our best refinement.

Let us not look for you only in memory,
Where we would grow lonely without you.
You would want us to find you in presence,
    Beside us when beauty brightens,
    When kindness glows
    And music echoes eternal tones.

    When orchids brighten the earth,
    Darkest winter has turned to spring;
May this dark grief flower with hope
In every heart that loves you.

May you continue to inspire us:

To enter each day with a generous heart.
To serve the call of courage and love
Until we see your beautiful face again
In that land where there is no more separation,
Where all tears will be wiped from our mind,
And where we will never lose you again.

I have absolutly no connection to Co. Clare, other than beleiving it's the most beautiful county in Ireland, but may I also pass on my sincere and deepest condolences to the Family of the Bereaved.

I totally agree with mahamageehad on His/Her wonder at what is happening to our beautiful and once friendly country.

    R.I.P Deirdre McCarthy.

Man assisting in violent death inquiry tries to take his own life

    Sunday April 03 2011

A MAN who was assisting the garda investigation into the violent death of Co Clare guesthouse worker Deirdre McCarthy is recovering in hospital after attempting to take his own life.

The man was rushed to hospital by ambulance on Friday night. It is understood that the man slit his own wrists and is recovering in hospital in Galway.

The incident occurred just hours after gardai confirmed that Ms McCarthy had died a violent death. It is understood that detectives spoke to the man at his hospital bedside yesterday morning.

The body of Ms McCarthy, 43, from Ballyvaughan, was washed up on Fanore beach last Thursday. She was last seen on Sunday night and was reported missing on Monday.

It has emerged that her mobile phone has provided gardai with crucial clues as to her final hours. Phone records suggest she exchanged text messages with another person who wanted to meet on the night she died.

The signal from the phone was lost at 4.58 last Monday morning. Detectives found her phone last Wednesday near the sea some two miles from Fanore beach.

Gardai have not yet mounted a full murder inquiry as they are still awaiting the results of the post mortem.

Ms McCarthy, who was single, worked for many years in Turlough House in the popular tourist town. She was last seen alive last Sunday night, when she socialised with friends in a local pub. They dropped her home at 11.30pm.

Gardai are satisfied that she had gone into her house; the clothes she was wearing in the pub were in her bedroom. Friends also told detectives that she was afraid of the dark and would not have gone out again alone.

Gardai now believe that Ms McCarthy died "as a result of violence" between 11.30pm and 7am. They believe her body may have been removed from her home under cover of darkness and dumped in the sea. She was due to start work at 10am on Monday and was reported missing later that afternoon.

Superintendent John Gilligan, the garda press officer, said: "We are asking people to come forward so we can find out exactly what happened."

He said they were looking for information about "a car, or more than one car" which "would have passed up and down before or around 7am".

Ms McCarthy is survived by her mother, Helen, her brother, Tom and her four sisters, Helen, Christina, Bernie and Ann. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ennistymon garda station at 065 707 2180.

Even though there are lots of rumours coming from the village at the moment it seems to be fact that the gardaí are quite convinced about their suspect
