Excellent spin on the Newport to Achill section of the Western Greenway on Monday. Amazing number of cyclists of all ages (and shapes!) Thought normal road wheels wouldn't be great so borrowed Ms MP's work bike. Needn't have bothered as one of our group had 23mm tyres and had no problems. Conditions were perfect though with only one heavy shower coinciding with a coffee stop in Mulranny.

Detoured off the Newport to Mulranny Greenway to do a rather "lumpy" circuit of Lough Furness. Beautiful scenery but some sharp hills.

Some detour, you must have been doing some serious speed to maintain enough inertia to get up (along?) that road.

Ms MP made it about half way up and walked the rest. She was about as fast as me using the Granny ring!

View from the top of Minaun. Taken yesterday. Barely had the energy to take it! The views were amazing but it was so windy/cold up there I just headed back down without taking any more pics.

A few pics from my first time cycling in West Cork & Kerry. Some stunning scenery and some tough climbs. The scenery helps pass the draggy kms.

    Priest's Leap.

The road to Priest's Leap. Not the best but doable.
    IMG_1539.jpg

I got a puncture on the hairy descent but the road remained the same.....

Rather weird - that photo is vertical (as was the hill) when viewed on an iPad but horizontal now that I see it on the PC. Any idea why?

Great shots, will be doing this route in a couple of weeks and was wondering what the road conditions were like?

Both seem fine. I did the full climb from the South and dropped over the top down 2km before coming back up again.

The side you went up has also been repaved since last year, although I still found it pretty gruelling when I went up it in July. Love the descent on the other side into Glencar.

I brought my trusty Trek FX on holidays this year to Killarney and later to Achill.

Killarney first - took this in the National Park in late June:

    318270.jpg

Then it was off to Achill in early August:

I did a 60km cycle around the Island including the Atlantic way. Took this at the top of the "zig zags" (you'll know them if you've done them!) looking out to Clare Island :
    318273.jpg

Later on in the week, I did a 95km cycle from Achill to Newport return - mostly on the Greenway. Cool looking Metal sculptures on the Greenway between Mulranny and Newport:
    318272.jpg

And, later on the way back, a panoramic shot:
    318274.jpg

We really have a lovely country :)

Took a little run across Dublin bay from Portmarnock to Blackrock, stopping off at the Great South Wall for a little breather (its one of my fav places in Dublin).
