Col du Couraduque is a cross-country ski station in Val d'Azun, it is a 16km climb with the summit at 1370m. The last 6km are very steep. Normally this time of year there would be about 2 meters of snow up here.

Haven't been on the bike much since completely the Sean Kelly due to holidays and a back injury :( For Christmas I headed off to Kenya and Tanzania for safari and while researching I discovered Hell's Gate NP, the only National Park in Kenya that you are allowed to cycle (or hike) through...

    DSCN0363.jpg

Not sure how well you can see, but those are three zebras in the background.
Park entry was 25USD + 100 KES to cycle (about 1 euro). Guide for 5 hrs was 800KES and bike hire 1000KES from memory and included a 2hr hike into the Hell's Gate gorge. It was amazing but stinking hot (easily 30C) and no shade. We entered the park at 9.30 and at a leisurely pace (lots of stops for photos!) about an hour later were at the place where the hike starts (about 7km from gate to gorge). This meant we had to cycle out of the park at about 12.30 in the middle of the heat of the day and I was sunburnt and absolutely wrecked from the climb out of the gorge. Shamed to say my guide earnt his tip by pushing me back the last couple of kms :o Highly recommend it though if anyone is heading to Kenya :)

5km from the summit of Col du Tourmalet. The road is closed at 4.5km to go, just above the Super-Baréges ski station at 1750m. It looks much colder than it was, actually ok in the sunshine but bitter in the shade.

The first on post #529 looks like a great advert for cycling to work.

However, have you always had an egg shaped wheel? Or is that sizing.

Reminds me ... I took a spin up to the magical land of Kilgobnet near Dungarvan a while back. Stopped for a leak and came back to my bike only to find three horses and a dog arguing over it. Bloody amazing!
