Some day I'll learn how to zoom on the phone. View over Dublin was crystal clear this morning. edit: That white blip on the far right is Sorrento Terrace, with Dalkey Island beside it.

Went up to Kippure today after a few weeks of not cycling. A bit annoyed though at how bad the quality came out on some photos - fuzziness spoiled many good ones. Might start saving for a phone with a better camera! :)

Place was busier than usual plus a lot of cyclists around - any other boardsies? :)

Anyone else up here today will probably have noticed this burnt out Colt still smouldering away. I checked it out and couldn't find any reg plates or anything around. Hope it's gotten rid of soon, huge eyesore on a nice area.

Very windy this weekend, so hide in all the cul-de-sacs around Stellenbosch.

This on the old Helshoogte pass. (hels = hell & hoogte=heights). It was replaced by the new pass 10-15 years back, so now free of cars:

Jonkershoek (Jonkers= a surname & hoek = corner) A valley better known for its world class MTB tracks, but for me it would always be the very first bit for tarmac that I trained on as a schoolboy. Even before the days of Strava I had to try and beat my own PB, every day... :)

Saturday on Lackevaney, Conemara. Cycled out there, up the mountain on foot and back to Galway on the bikes. Got timing wrong so last hour was totally in the dark. Had good lights front & back but didn't stop a Finnegan Bros coach nearly wiping me out at Ugool.

Don't know if this has been mentioned earlier on but it'd be good if we could organise a cycle with a bunch of people on this thread to a scenic area and put the photos/album taken from it up here afterwards. :)

Bog road between Clifden and Cashla, looking towards Twelve Bens. Summers day almost, minus the midges and most of the tourists.

where is the alcock and brown monument

  • Registered Users Posts: 865 ✭✭✭Maidhci

The Alcock and Brown monument is on the Clifden - Ballyconneelly road, approx 6km. from Clifden. Have cycled this road very often, beautiful cycle on through Roundstone - Toombeola - Cashel and onto the N59 again. Could slideshow bob tell us where the first image 'Bog road between and Cashla' was captured. There is a bog road linking the Clifden - Ballyconneelly road to Toombeola outside Clifden, it could be this or alternatively, there is another bog road near Cashel X, linking that road to Doire Iorrais, known locally as Bóthar na Scrathóg. The image could be either but to the best of my knowledge there is no bog road linking Clifden and Casla. In any event, thank you for posting the photos.

Found these two from one September evening while flicking through my cycling photos file on the PC. Sorry again for the poor quality!
