    Dublin Coach offers a great service IMO. It goes around the world a bit so may not do if your in a hurry but the timetable is bang on so if you plan your trip by it you'll be grand. The buses are top notch and the price is right. Timetables & fares below (correct as of April 6th 2011)

    The current Iarnrod Eireann timetable for Portlaoise offers 30 trains from Dublin and 32 trains to Dublin Monday to Friday (weekend frequency is lower).

    The current Iarnrod Eireann timetable for Portarlington offers 32 trains from Dublin and 35 trains to Dublin Monday to Friday (weekend frequency is lower).

    A basic hourly all stations stopping service between Portlaoise and Dublin is provided thus offering excellent local journey opportunities between Portlaoise - Portarlington - Monastervin - Kildare - Newbridge and Sallins and Naas.

    It appears to not be as well known around town, as a lot of people I know always seem to opt for Dublin Coach for journeys to the big smoke (which takes 2 - 2.5 hours by the time you get the Luas into town from the Red Cow), but JJ Kavanaghs are great for travelling to Dublin City. They stop at The Blue Bridge (NEVER FORGET!), Hospital and Kilminchy, and are incredibly punctual. Don't ever expect to be waiting longer than 15mins after the scheduled time (they're usually on time or <5mins off).
    Stops at Kildare Village on the way, has an onboard toilet, and takes you to Dublin City Centre for the mere sum of €5

    Timetable here: http://www.jjkavanagh.ie/images/events/Limerick-Dublin%20FEB%202012.pdf

    For those on mobile:
    Portlaoise departure times(JFL Ave):
    03.00hr 05.45hr 09.00hr 11.10hr 13.10hr 15.10hr 17.15hr 19.25hr

    And Dublin (Georges Quay) Departure times:
    07.00hr 11.15hr 13.00hr 16.00hr 18.00hr 19.30hr 22.00hr 00.45hr

    Excellent service considering that Bus Éireann are now charging €9.50 each way, and gets you to the City Centre as quick as the train considering you don't have to hop on the Luas or anything like that.
