Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bit OT but if I cancel now, I will have to change my CC number / details on the 10 or 20 sites that I have it registered to. I see no reason to do that at this stage. Plus, isn't there a charge to get a new card? If so and I have to get one, I will be charging Sony as it is directly their fault. To preempt argument, as it's OT, that's what the SCC is for.

If you think it's OTT then fine. All I was saying is that to put a hold on your card is pretty pointless and that if you had serious concerns then a new card is the only way. As for changing details on 10 or 20 sites, have you been reading the rest of the posts? That is what people are complaining about. The fact that this is a huge pain in the hole to have to change passwords and details to sites etc.

10-20 sites huh? Thats alot of porn.

So has anyone received any email from Sony yet?
I haven't received any email regarding the hack to either my US or EU account emails.
While I appreciate that a lot of the information regarding the hack is in the public domain,
I think its very poor practice that the company which held my data has not yet had the courtesy to send me an email informing there has been a security breach.
Piss poor customer service once again from Sony.
And before anyone suggests I may have a spam filter or similar for psn/Sony notifications... I don't :)

You probably did get an email, but the hacker who now has access to your email has probably deleted it already...

Haha... my passwords are changed on a 30 day cycle mate(and none are shared across multiple sites) ;) apart from my psn which has been the same since launch day.
An even security question wise there isn't anything that should allow a hack on any of my mail accounts in my psn data.(I hope)

The fact is I haven't received a mail as of yet despite the hack being in the public domain.

My email arrived this morning at 2am. I imagine sending out 70 million or so emails takes a while. Still should have been sent out sooner though. They have put the information out everywhere though. It's been in every newspaper I've seen, on all the news channels and all that. I can't imagine there's many people who are unaware of the situation and relying on an email.

I really see zero chance of getting the other OS back tbh. They need to give something back to their customers but doubt it'll be that.

It's highly unlikely [I'd say non existent] that ANY new features will come out of this [at least within the next month]. They are purely concentrating on securing their backend. I believe they will be releasing a new PS3 firmware but this firmware will purely be to tell the PS3 how to securely navigate the new secure servers.

There just won't be Cross Game Chat or revival of OtherOS. Not in the short term, anyway. This is just hopeful speculation.

They haven't put it anywhere apart from that blog (that I know of). Other media are reporting it because its a big story, but I shouldn't have to rely on someone else to tell me about it. I've not got an e-mail either obviously, I had used my CC online on PSN before so I'm slightly concerned.

I got an email there, earlier today. Have a UK and US account set up along with my usual IE account too, all on different email addresses. So far I've gotten 2 emails from Sony today, one to the UK account and one to the US account email addresses. None to my usual account, yet.

It's the same old stuff. Doesn't really tell us anything different from what was on the blog/websites.

    Here's what the emails said.
    Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:
    1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
    2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
    3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province, zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, to be on the safe side we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.

To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant to review your account statements and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports.

We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. Please contact us at www.eu.playstation.com/psnoutage should you have any additional questions.

    Sincerely,
Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment Teams

Sony Network Entertainment Europe Limited (formerly known as PlayStation Network Europe Limited) is a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited the data controller for PlayStation Network/Qriocity personal data

The one sent to my US account email address had more info about support on where to find help with credit checks etc.

Almost looks like they're subtly admitting to sending credit card data unencrypted, and only encrypting in the data tables?

I'm glad that i only used 3V vouchers on PSN so if they did get any credit card numbers from my account there no good to them. My email address password is different as well so they wont be able to access that.

Does anybody know if the PSN being down has had any effect on the latest patch updates for games being applied on startup?

I recently got a copies of Assassins Creed 1 & 2 on the cheap and when I went to install 1 , it applied patch version 1.10. However not long into the game (like after 10-15 mins) the game crashes during a loading screen and I cannot proceed any further.

Sorry for derailing the thread here with talk of Assassins Creed but if someone could answer my orignal question on patches I would appreciate it!

The patch servers are working fine - I've had games apply the latest patches without hitch.

My guess with Assassin's Creed would be that perhaps the PS3 version is a bit buggy. You could try cleaning the disc and deleting and reinstalling any game data and starting from your last save. Seeing as how you were only at the start maybe you should start from scratch and see if it crashes again.

rumour is that Sony are making all devs recompile PSN content on to the newer 3.60(3.70)+ sdk, and that's one of the reason it's taking so long as they want that done before it up again.

    Cheers for that.

I tried uninstalling and installing Assassins Creed again but got the same crash in the exact same place again which is what made me think of the patch not being the latest version. Perhaps its just a dodgy copy!

I think I'm going to set up a LastPass account and use unique auto generated random passwords for each separate site/service from now on. This has happened several times to me now on a few different sites/services including boards.ie.

My only worry is can LastPass be hacked?

Is there limits to changing your email on a psn account?

I have 1 email set to my EU account and 1 set to my JP account, the EU email(isp) is one i've had for years and want to move away from using(especially now) but my main email(gmail) is set to the JP account. I don't really use the JP account for anything and only remembered it was used after getting Sonys warning email on it.

I assume i'll need a 3rd email and to shuffle them around but is there a limit or restriction to this, like using an already used but not assigned email on an other PSN account.

You're right, you can only use one email address per PSN account, but Gmail is special. Do you know the 'full stop' trick? If you put a full stop anywhere in your email address most software reads it as a unique email address, but all mail will get sent to the one gmail account.

So varikrocks@gmail.com, varik.rocks@gmail.com and va.rikrocks@gmail.com etc can all be linked to different PSN accounts, but all mail will be accessible from varikrocks@gmail.com.

    Hope that helps your situation.

    Q&A number 2!

    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/28/qa-2-for-playstation-network-and-qriocity-services/
Q: Will our download history/friends list/settings be affected by the PSN downtime?
    A: No, they will not.

Q: Will trophies that were earned in single-player offline games during the outage be intact when the service resumes?
A: These trophies are intact and will be re-synched when the network is once again operational.

Q: Will my PS+ cloud saves be retrievable?
A: Yes, once PSN is restored.

Q: What if we have a subscription to PS3 MMOs DC Universe Online or Free Realms? Will we get compensation for that?
A: From Sony Online Entertainment: “We apologize for any inconvenience players may have experienced as a result of the recent service interruption. As a global leader in online gaming, SOE is committed to delivering stable and entertaining games for players of all ages. To thank players for their patience, we will be hosting special events across our game portfolio. We are also working on a “make good” plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms. Details will be available soon on the individual game websites and forums.”

Q: Will there be a goodwill gesture for the time we haven’t been able to utilize PSN/Qriocity?
A: We are currently evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience as we work to get these services back online.

You might also want to check out 1Password:

    http://agilewebsolutions.com/onepassword

I've used it for years and it's great - started as a Mac OS X/iOS app but there are Windows and Android versions now too. Unlike LastPass, the DB is stored and encrypted on your machine, not in the cloud (unless of course if you are using the Dropbox sync option but that's a different matter...).

Have to agree with Desire. though, anything can be hacked, including both 1Password and LastPass...

The other downside to 1Password is that obviously it's not free, but way better than LastPass IMO.
