Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You don't have to, it Stimulus was the one that messed up to a huge degree with no one able to play on 360 and was release on the day the wallet messed up on PS3. Resurgence had some corruption problems but that was fixed fast enough.

Some people couldn't add funds for the EU store on the same day Stimulus came out, it didn't take PSN down you could still buy the DLC and play games as well as everything else with the exception of adding funds from a credit card.

When it release on the 360 a month early it required a update to the game as something was wrong with it.

I remember it being a bigger problem because some of the criticisms going around were that it had happend to Live the month before and thus should have been prevented by PS. Also you couldn't access the wallet at all, not just for CC payments and getting online was hampered badly.......wasn't it? to hell with it. I'm not going to argue the issue. It was fine. Nothing bad happened and all was fine. I'm going back to getting the last few single player achievements in black ops.

why would it be laughable if the same looking psn came back up ? i was happy with the last one. if they have it back working like before, with the new security running in the backround it will suit me just fine.

Because if it was, surely they could have had it back before now if it was.

The two problems were different and it was only coincidence that a cod map pack came out on both days with the 360 version have the maps being at fault not live and PSN working and letting you buy the maps if you already had money in the wallet.

If I had friends who would come around why would I pay 400euro for a PS3 and 55euro for fifa11 to play football with them when a football costs 10euro?:D

thats also stupid :S how is playing on the same couch as your friend childish like a 10 year old and also better than playing them over the internet

They said they are rebuilding the PSN -- i.e. the security and the like. They are more than likely not going to make any noticeable differences.

Pretty sure he meant playing offline against the computer is for ten year olds.

Perhaps. I still think that could have been done quicker given that most of the security, see discussion on Apache earlier, is from specialised sources and just put into use by Sony. They don't actually create any of that software themselves so it should just be a matter of implementation. Seem to be stepping on a lot of toes tonight. So bored though. Can't stop typing. Does anyone else like toast? I like toast.:(

Okay, so the PSN might not have been down. You just couldn't buy anything and I know at leats 2 people who bought the credit in shops and couldn't use it and I couldn't add with cc, but okay. Perhaps it wasn't "down". A bit like saying our shop is open. You just can't get anything. pedantics aside I think the point is still valid that with a large volume in a short timeframe there was issues and that was in relation to one game. Now with bringing on the whole system it will be tough. That was my point....

Would you say the same if UPC cut off your internet for 3 weeks, and people start getting in eircom or someone?

Over the passed 3 years I have bought about 3 different xbox 360's hoping maybe it would have improved... Started off with the Arcade then I got a HDD... Then I got an Elite, followed by the Halo Reach Limited Edition Xbox 360.. And I can strongly say xbox is nowhere near as good as PS3... Even when I only had a Xbox in the house, it was just gathering dust... I for one would never trade my PS3 for an Xbox, it would just be stupid of me..

The OH works in a games retailer and she has seen (relatively) a lot of this this week, at least 3 people a day trading in PS3s. She told me about one customer who sounded like a pretty hardcore Sony fan - I'm talking a PS3 and a ton of games and accessories. I figured hardcore PS3 users like that would have waited a few more days - but nope, out goes the PS3 and in with the shiny new 360.

Surely these people are going to regret it when something like inFamous 2, Uncharted 3 or Twisted Metal (and Ni no Kuni, Team Ico Collection, The Last Guardian...) come out?

Should have just bought Civilization V like I did. XD

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,565 ✭✭✭✭Tallon

I agree, it's a stupid thing to do.

I mean, it's not like the thing is unusable! They can still play offline, Lan ect. Surely of they had all those games and never traded them in before, they could have fired one up and played it.

I'm playing Time Crisis with the gun on PS1 the past while and fúcking love it

If it wasn't for the outage, I wouldn't have even touched the thing!

I work in one of the biggest games retailers in Dublin and I've yet to hear of a case of someone swapping over away from the PS3 due to the PSN problems. Seems like a bit of a drastic measure to take - the price of changing over all your games and the console would be a lot.

Can't forget Catherine! Especially since the PS3 has the funniest cover art:

In terms of cancelling Brink that is to be expected its really an online game if you have it ordered on PS3 but have an xbox it makes sense to swap. or if they only have PS then they cancel.

Swapping consoles with MW2 in mind i don't think those people are interested in PS exclusives any way they are hardcore COD fans, and while 3 a day is lots in one shop in the over all picture 3 out of 50million is nothing.

The controller for the 360 is annoying but so is the fact that you have to pay an annual subscription for online play and everything seems to be extra, for example the wireless card, that you have to pay for!

Not on the new one tbf, but yeah, it's hard to adjust to the controller

  • Registered Users Posts: 460 ✭✭keithc83

Well i didn't know that but i still wouldn't shell out on one. But thats just me. Even with this PR fiasco from Sony i'm still sticking to the PS3.

Won't hear a bad word about the 360 controller (except the D-Pad, complain away about that, but that's what arcade sticks are made for). Indeed, I'm often persuaded to pick up shooters, action games and other big budget titles for 360 merely because the controller is slightly better, particularly the triggers.

Dual Shock is fine, but its feeling its age, many years on from the PS1. It's straight up dreadful for FPS games, triggers too spongy and - sacrilege! - the default usually L1 and R1. And don't get me started on Sixaxis integration...

Black Ops Machines come in a few shapes and sizes. People can play Black Ops tomorrow with one quick trade. More power to em.

The 360 controller is pretty good tbh. The only thing bad about it is the d-pad, but there's a new edition out now that sorted it out. It's only an issue for fighting games and anyone who's into fighting games will have bought an arcade stick or Capcom fight pad anyway. The wireless is built into the new slim 360s I think. Paying for live is annoying but to be honest the deals of the week for gold members pays for itself if you like XBLA games and most shops are selling 12 months subs for 35-40 Euro. 6O Euro was insane.

I guess i have just got used to the PS3 controller and find that i can't get use to the 360 one. I did try though, bought an xbox a few years back but i just couldn't get to grips with it, pardon the pun.

I didn't know wireless was built in to the new ones but that is a smart move because having to pay for that adapter on the old one was pretty pathetic.

35-40 Euro does not sound that bad and for anyone playing the 360 online daily, i am sure you will say its worth it too. But i do enjoy the fact that i can play online for free on the PS3 considering i paid for the game, and obviously the console, without having to pay a seperate subscription.
Maybe i will change my mind with this 30 day free trial of PS+ but i doubt it.

Well then we should carry on doing what we were doing. Get someone to make an assumption about PSN's security/return date/ease of service renual, whatever, and everyone else can beat the sh!t out of them until the next assumption is made and the last person is left in a quivering heap. It's worked for the last few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,256 ✭✭✭FlawedGenius

Controller shouldnt be an issue if your thinking of switching.. You can get a thing called "crossfire adapter" which lets you use your ps3 controller on xbox, only downside is you have to use a wired controller with it, but positive is your moreless guaranteed therl be no lag and theres options for turbo buttons/rapid fire. Theres a few third party controllers aswell like the ps3 that are supposed to be good.

Why would you want to use triggers as the 2 main ones. Using the triggers to shoot is pointless it's a digital command you're either shooting or you're not.

Tacticle feedback. Triggers just feel right. The PS3 ones for me don't. And many years of console gaming has made the 'back triggers shoot and aim' layout become deeply engrained in my subconscious. The 360 controller is pretty much designed for shooters. The decade and a half old dualshock not so much.

Anyway, off topic, and all down to personal preference. Having spent a hell of a lot of time with both, though, I prefer the 360 design.

Both have **** D Pads, however, which is a curse for us modern shmup fans!

Xbox controller is crap compared dualshock imo.

I've been playing blops for the past 3 weeks on the xbox and its confirmed 3 things for me...

    1. PS3 Controller > Xbox for shooters, at least the analogs are.
    2. The whole "Xbox has better players thing" is BULL**** !!
    3. There is a noticable difference in performance between the PS3 and Xbox versions of the game in favor of Xbox.

Anyway ENOUGH OFF TOPIC NONSENSE !!! WHY YOU NO FIX PSN ???

The latest word is that this is all because Sony attempted to sue a hacker, and the hacker decided to take revenge, but this is what is making the rounds.

I knew this was more than likely the reason, I think it was Geo Hotz and his friends that they tried to sue.. I am pretty sure they also warned Sony... TBH they got what they where looking for, hackers win!.. Ohh well they won't be doing that in a hurry any more ;)

I can adapt to playing anything on either controller, except fighting games on the Xbox standard controller.
