Just a reminder that the excellent Loch of Lowes Osprey webcam is live again here: http://www.swt.org.uk/wildlife/webcams/loch-of-lowes/ and while there are no eggs yet there's plenty of activity. Well worth a look in from time to time. :D

This extract from the Scottish Wildlife Trust blog gives a flavour of what's to be seen:

    Wildlife Blog 12th April 2011
    Events from the nest today:

This morning our female osprey was offered a fish by our male, though she was not tempted by his catch. He then flew off with it.

Last year the eggs were laid on 13th April and so we are all hopeful that our female may lay fairly soon. The behavioural signs displayed i.e. tidying up the nest and spending very little time away from the nest (only leaving once – very briefly) indicate that she may be preparing.

At 2:22pm today, activity around the nest began to hot up with the male hovering over the loch near to the nest attempting to fish. He was then interrupted at 2:24pm by an interloper flying close to the nest. This then prompted the male to return to the nest and protect it. The intruder soon flew away and harmony was restored. This was an altogether thrilling sight to see from the hides.

I'll add links to this post as they come in and if there is a lot of discussion about a particular webcam I can move it to a dedicated thread.

Great tit chicks are 15 days old so fledging can happen in coming days.
    live feed:
    http://CorkNest.com/live/

There are 3 cameras - side close up, overhead and outside. Normally the cameras cycle and the feed is live 0900-2000. There are links on the site for earlier recorded videos, whch are in stereo. The microphones are at nest level and separate power supply & cabling give good sound.

There are 7 chick but it seems the male has gone missing 3 days ago. mealworms were expected to arrive by post yesterday, hopefully they'll arrive today day.

I't's a standard nest box but rebuild to accept cameras sound & lighting. Constructions photos on the site also.

Bad news from The Loch of Lowes I'm afraid as no eggs have hatched and it is way beyond the normal incubation period. Both birds are still incubating but barring Divine intervention.

There's another Osprey webcam here: http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/l/lochgarten/abernethyvideo.aspx from the RSPB reserve at Loch Garten. There appears to be young (?) but the picture is so small that I haven't had the patience to stay watching. Great audio though and you can hear a wide variety of other birds on the reserve - just heard my first cuckoo of 2011! :D

Just took another look (13.16) and there are two chicks at Loch Garten. Yippee!!

No, both parents present at both sites. I thought that the last Osprey shot in Scotland was in 2010?

Seems like the eggs have been abandoned.

Im so disappointed. I have watched that nest for weeks.

I think the female is just too old now to produce fertile eggs.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust are admitting that this years Loch of Lowes Osprey project has failed. They are such large, magnificent birds that its easier to relate to them than a small garden bird and to watch the pair soldiering on with the now futile incubation attempt is very sad.

    ^^^^^^
I saw that she was back on the nest but she was away for such long periods yesterday that I honestly thought she had abandoned. SORRY!

Still, its hard to watch her sitting there knowing that there is not going to be a positive outcome.

I, too, have been keeping up with the Ospreys in Scotland and it's very sad to see them persevering with the eggs way past the expected hatching dates.

Taken from the SWT site today:
"It is now 49 days after the third egg was laid by our female osprey in residence here at Loch of the Lowes for the 21st consecutive year. The average incubation period for osprey eggs is thought to be 37 days and, although our female osprey has surprised us many times in the past, it now seems highly unlikely that the eggs will hatch this year.

Sadly these things can happen in nature, and while in many ways it is disappointing that we are not going to see chicks on the nest this year, it is worth remembering that our female osprey has now laid her 61st egg, which is still an astonishing achievement."

Click on black stork camera 2, there are 4 chicks, all doing well. I've also been watching the bear cam a lot but only seen a bear once at dusk. The eagle(?) on the other black stork cam is incubating 2 eggs.
