Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Apologies if there was a thread on these before but was looking at buying pregnancys testers from moreway. Anyone ever used them?
Supposed to be accurate at 19-23 days... could be handy if they worked. cost €4 each though!

Haven't used them, is not better to watch for repeats or get them scanned at 30 days.

ye but costs less to get them scanned at 28 days, which would you trust a piece of paper or seeing the foetus on screen

I suppose there is a place for them but they only work on cows that are milking, so if you have any maiden heifers you still have to scan!

might use a few for cows that i didnt see any sign at 3 weeks. i like to keep reducing the amount of cows to keep an eye on for repeats. yea will scan groups but dont like to scan small numbers at a time

was talking to ai man the other day and he does scanning as well.i asked him about scanning at 30 days and he adviced not to scan at 30 days and said men are useing self locking barriers.he said that the cows or heifers dont like the crush and scanning at 30 days could cause stress and harm and said he scans a lot of big dairy herds in the north and all the dairy men stopped scanning at 30 days and now only scan at 42 days.

Surely if you have the scanner man in the yard your going to do as many as you can. I would do everything as any not bulling are far more important to me than knowing who is in calf In nature your still going to have animals losing a pregnancy at these very early stages would'nt think scanning will increase it alot. Self locking barriers have made the job so quick and less stress on cow

We scan in the parlour, cows are not stressed walking in there unlike doing them in the crush. Agree with st1979 its the unbred cows that need to be seen, rarely scan bred cows at 30 days as its too early to mark them down as Incalf.
