Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi folks

Doing the ol' thesis at the moment, I'm trying to prove if a restaurants physical menu can be used as their most effective marketing tool.

This is where you guys come in :D

All you gotta do is open the attachment, take a look at the menu I have designed and then click on this link..

    http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QXSQ8GD

Which will bring bring up a shore questionaire (10 questions).

I know these things are a pain in the hole, and those of you that have completed a thesis know that finding people to fill out questionnaires can be a nightmare, so I would really, really appreciated it if you could take 10 minutes out of your day to fill it out!!

    Thanks

    -Mark

    done online -

If you are interested in psychology of food have a read up on Heston Blumenthal, he has some interesting articles about the names of food and how people perceive things based on their name

One example is Crab ice-cream Vs Frozen Crab bisque

also Gordon ramsay talks in one of his books about menus and how they should be laid out with certain fonts etc

You should try to prove anything with a thesis. You investigate the importance of the menu.
Basically if you state that you will prove that menu is the most important, and it turns out not to be, yout thesis is a failure (based on what you set out to do). It's minor, but its has a huge impact on an academic level.

FYI I think menu is important, but its not the most important marketing tool. The quality of food is simply the most important, reviews, word of mouth, ratings all ctem from the quality of food.

ps the menu didn't come up for me, i answered based on the selection of options got it sorted

I found the starter menu to be too shellfish based and the main alternative is something else that as a pregant woman I could not have - also there were no plain foods for people with allergies (or meals that could be simplified). Was not impressed by the menu sorry.

In my experience the ONLY thing a restaurant needs to do to be successful is to have excellent food.

It can have a "crap" menu (whatever that means, it's the food, not the menu that matters), poor location, slow service, not enough seats, but if it serves top notch food, every time, then word will spread and it will do well.

Also, I found the survey to be poorly put together, I'm afraid. You can't tell if the menu is good by just reading from a list, you can only do that by eating the food! I don't know if €25 is good value for a 2 course meal, I could only tell that after I had eaten.

If you are trying to figure out pricing, just produce the best possible food you possibly can, charge more for it than you think is reasonable (people NEVER give honest answers in surveys regarding pricing) and adjust accordingly.

Some more vegetarian options wouldn't hurt either. If I saw that menu I probably wouldn't go as I'd have no choice what so ever.

    Done.

The menu is important to me when I'm deciding to eat somewhere for the first time. Looks aren't important, but content is. I'll always check out a menu on the web if I can get it, or at the premises if I'm just walking by. My wife does the same.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
