Hi, new to this board, hi. Also pretty new to birdwatching, but having bought a place on Lough Oughter in Cavan, very much enjoying the view. So at the moment we have a pair of Great Crested Grebes nesting and mating on a floating nest right in front of the house, is this of interest?? I've also been told we have a buzzard in the area and last Sunday saw what appeared to be him/her (large raptor brown/white) gliding really high over the house. Could this be a buzzard in Cavan??? Ta, Gabriel

seems like you got yourself a nice patch there !!
Buzzards are resident in most places around ireland - maybe buy yourself eric dempsey's field guide to ireland's birds - the book gives maps of species occurance for each bird - and what time of year you're likely to see them.
    Enjoy your new home!
