Issues with Quad

Having issues with a home built quad on an ASUS P5 motherboard.

Lately, having trouble accessing the hard drive. Have replaced the HD twice, and still having trouble. Currently, if I go into BIOS at startup, it reports NO HARD DRIVE present.....Presume that it is fried, but if so, it's the third one, so I don't believe its a HD problem.

The opening post screen reports 4096M of memory OK.....that's correct.

So my thoughts are towards the MOBO.....any recommendations??

    Thanx in advance :)

What kind of PSU do you have?
Perhaps you should try the HDD in an external enclosure or another PC.

    570W

There's an audio card, a graphics card, an external [self-powered] USB drive
DVD drive, hard drive and motherboard.

    Enough watts....?

Are there any more details on the PSU? Make/model?

Have you tried to change what SATA (assuming its SATA) connector you've attached the HDD to?
Give that a try if you havent, just to see if the BIOS can detect it.

Might be a help if you tell us the exact spec. of the PC too

    Specification
    Intel Quad CPU 9300 @ 2.5Ghz [no o/c]
    Asus P5 mobo
Trust PW5500 570W Dual Fan Power Supply
Nvidia 8500 GTX Graphics card - 1G mem
    RME Raydat audio card

    HD/DVD
    Windows XP SP3

Been working fine for 2 years - trouble in last 2 months

@ broomstick - tried a couple of other sata ports and leads = no joy

Trust aren't known much for their PSUs and there isn't enough info around about it but I would look at that first (and maybe a surge protector power strip) if you have had a series of hard drives die on you.

As for your current HDD, if it stopped showing up suddenly, then the circuit board is probably fried. Try it in another PC to be sure. You might be able to save data using an identical circuit board.

Thanks for your help so far guys....

Just checked the hard drive on a different machine...working perfectly,
    so NOT THE HD!

Mobo or PSU is all it can be.....
Any shops in town stock P5 mobos? Power supply is not a prob.

Could be the motherboard so. Perhaps update the BIOS to the lastest version.

For the price of a new 775 motherboard in PC World or similar, you could probably buy half a new system. Either go online or try to get one second hand (adverts etc.).

if you want to be sure, remove the 8400 and the audio card. then try to power on. Also try a different molex power adapter.
