Just got a call back offering us an upgrade to a HD box with free installation if we took HD for 12 months at €15, with three of those months to be free. So basically €135 to upgrade to HD.

The HD pack is an add-on. You can't have it on its own.

They are advertising this on their website this last few days. I signed up yesterday. Previously the best offer was 30 for the install, free box but no free months.
Looking forward to seeing the champions league final in HD.

I asked exactly that, as he read it out at the end of the terms and conditions, but he confirmed there is a 30 day cooling off period.

When I upgraded to HD about 18 months ago there was definitely a 30 day cooling off period. Im fairly sure that if you cancelled within that period then you had to return the HD box.

That was 18 months ago but Id be fairly sure it's still the same T & C's.

Cancelled the HD channels, no problemo and nothing said about returning the box.

I have multi-room with one sky+ box and one standard box. How will I get on if I ask for a second sky+ box? I don't want HD subscription, just the box for the second room. Has anyone tried this?

Sky+ requires a 2nd cable from the dish so just gettin the + box
won't give you sky + I can't see them installing it for
    nothing

I currently have a sky+ box and a std sky box both wired directly from the dish. So no installation required

I think IPAM was saying the standard box needed a second wire to be upgraded to sky+ capability.

Yeah I know - but the wires to both boxes are identical at the moment so I assume it doesn't need to be re-wired

Yeah, but is there 2 of them to the standard box? It'll be the same wire, but sky+ needs 2 lines in.

Yeah the installer future proofed them to be compatible for Sky+ in both locations or so he said!

So has anyone asked Sky for a free (or very cheap) sky+ box in these circumstances?

Well if the installer did that you are grand, and fortunate.
Regarding the box. I tried to buy a replacement sky+ box as mine was failing, but they said they only had hd and standard boxes. I could buy a hd box for around €160, and use that as a plus box, or upgrade for free to hd for 15€ a month and cancel after a year. That was all ge could do for me. Would either suit you?

Thanks Jimdagym, I don't need the HD subscription (I already pay for Sky World) so I'm hoping to get a Sky+HD box off them as cheap as possible. Wish me luck!

Have the same as you. Called 0818 719819 then 3 followed by 5 (thinking of leaving sky option) this evening. Got Cork but told them I wanted to leave as it is costing too much. They asked if I enjoyed the product (and if I really use all the packs/HD) and if there was anything that could convince me to stay. I told them if I was at €50pm I'd reconsider but no go. Then I said if I was back at my initial sign-up offer price I'd stay. The rest is history but I now have a >30 euro discount per month for 12 months.

If, for some reason, your multiroom box happened to break, you could ring and ask for a replacement. They might try charge you for an engineer callout, but if they do that, just tell them you want to cancel the multiroom instead as you don't really watch it anyway. You might end up getting halfprice multiroom and a free replacement.
Don't know how your box might break though! ;)

The multiroom box is standard. They would send a free engineer, who would try and fix it, with the possibility of using a new standard box if he could not. Wouldn't help the upgrade to a second + box.

Yeah I ment 2 cables to the standard box ( which would be changed to the +)
if he did leave 2 at the standard box your sorted installation wise, I'm not sure if you'll get a free + box but when I got multiroom they used the standard old box that I already had in the other room and gave me a free HD+ box for the main room, no HD sub required. Threaten to leave If they don't give you a free one :)

Oh **** yeah. Forgot they still do standard boxes!

They're are a few hd boxes on adverts for €60. That's a good price for them.
