I have been talking to a few people and they reckon the poker tables are coming back.

Does anybody know anything else about it?

Maybe next year....new SU might mean poker tables back.

Haven't heard anything bout this year though, and i doubt it considering we're so close to the end of term.

There's absolutely nothing stopping a poker society,

What existed before was not a poker society... there was no one person in charge as CEO like all other societys. The common room was generally left covered in garbage after each day around the tables... and since they've been gone the place has been relatively spotless. No one took responsibility for chips/cards and finally the biggest problem was that real money was on the table and an integral part of the games.

For the society to exist without being torn down again, it needs to change like the pool society, who store balls/cues in common room, and only the trusted few can come and get the stuff out, sure it changes hands in the course of a day and I'm fairly sure lately things have gotten a bit lax, but there is someone who'll step in a sort problems out if they occur.

Secondly, there should be no real world money involved... just give everyone who sits down a set amount of chips and play till your done. I only heard about the major pots... but generally 1st years joined the society, and any society that has a reputation for taking money off of people, especially impressionable 1st years is never gonna be allowed to continue under the gaze of the college.

Thirdly, if a member leaves rubbish around on tables or near tables, he's out and a CEO or other board member must clean things up in general every day.

So can it return? yes of course! Should it return? totally most people lurve a game of poker, I'd love to see this back.

Not to mention disagreements because of money involved. Some behavior went on with people throwing cards and getting abusive. Stuff that a Casino would throw you out for before you even got a chance to cause trouble.

When it's a society it's supposed to be fun and not too serious and that's where the last society fell down. But +1 like Brendan, the college always needs more societies and especially visible ones on campus people can see that a lot does actually go on (unlike sports which are away on playing fields, swimming in NAC, Outdoors Society etc etc) and can easily join
