Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 and cooling Fan

I bought an Asus P5Q Board Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 that didnt come with a cooling fan for the processor, so I got one from a local computer shop but when I was fitting the fan the pins are slightly out of alignment (pins are out by about 4-5mm) with the holes on the board and if inserted they are at an angle, as this is one…

What cooler do you have?

Is it a socket 775?
If yes there is no reason why it shouldn't but you shouldn't have to force the pins in at an angle imo.

Its an intel cooling fan,Im not at home now but I just dont think its the right one.

Check the box if you still have it when your home and see if its Skt.775 compatible.

Here is a small guide to help as if its the stock intel fan those pins can be a right pain sometimes.

Should be but there is a larger one for Skt.1366 which is the same design but larger.I doubt its that one though as holes are a fair bit further apart on 1366.
I would double check the box to be safe.

The guy in the shop checked the CPU and said it was the right Cooling fan and as I said its only out by a couple of mm each hole.

Thats grand so just have a read of the guide and take a few deep breaths when fitting it coz as i said it can be a pita to fit :P
