Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What size rail system does an APS M4 take?

As the title says, I'm wondering what size Rail system do I need to install on my APS Carbine M4 (Should've payed the extra for the rails in the first place :p).
I've seen 170mm sets and 180mm sets to name a few. The current regular handguard measures somewhere around 165mm in length.
I would like to install a KAC style RAS handguard instead. Will this fit does anyone know? Or has anyone experience with the APS M4 and installing a rali system.
The Rail system I have in mind is:

I would really appreciate any help as I would much prefer a RIS/RAS M4.

It's a necessary part in transforming my M4 from the first image into the second one.

id measure carefully, because from what ive seen of the aps guns, they vary from standard. You may have to get an aps specific ris. Not sure the JG will fit?

I haven't been able to find a spare APS RIS, might check boards. But if I move the front sight forward a small bit it might fit. But if the JG isn't the right diameter for the rings to attach it, I get what you mean that it mightn't work.

front sight wont move forward, the pins retain it, and are located in chanels on the barrel, attaching it with just the friction grub screw wouldnt last long.

Have a look on actionhobbies in the uk, they stock aps, might have the ris?

Thanks. Gave it a look, but no joy :(

If the sight doesn't move, I might just remove the delta ring and install an SIR rail system. I have a friend with a Dboys CQB-s, I can check if his RIS handguard is compatible, so I know. I've seen Dboys rails too.

As far as i know MIA are now stocking a rail system made by aps that splits in half like the normal hanguard so you can still fit a battery if its front wired

I've heard, gave them a call today but it's not due in for another 3-4 weeks maybe.

I'm fairly strapped for cash myself, and considering you can get a regular 170mm rail for €30-€45. But ideally I'd only buy the APS one if it's the only one that fits.
I think they are €59.99/€60 alright, that sounds like the price they said on the phone.

Yeah, 170mm RIS won't fit because I checked my friends RIS today and it was 170mm and wouldn't fit. It's because it's a 165mm length for the APS carbine. Kinda sucks that it's non-standard :(
Can't you remove the delta ring and install a SIR rail to some M4s?

Path of least resistance is to replace the outer barrel with the hand guard, so that way you are left with a standard length space for your rail to go :)

I assume you're saying that I buy a standard outer barrel and install it instead of the the stock APS barrel. The parts for that job would cost me more than €20 (new) and then I'd have to but a RIS (new) for at least €25. I've chosen new prices because used prices would work out roughly the same.
But a RAS II system which is about 160mm at the bottom and side rails can attach to a delta ring and may fit my M4. But then I'll have to buy a PEQ for my battery.
The main problem is, I don't have much money to do this, I'm going to have to borrow money even just to do it. So I need the cheapest solution unfortunately :( As for difficulty of the job, I'm still young and have plenty of hair left to rip out :p This is why a SIR system is a backup plan to a RIS or RAS system because although it's more expensive, it should store a front wired battery.

A new outer barrel will cost you roughly €10 shipped, depending on what one you go for. I had to do the same to get my MOE handguard to fit. It made more sense to change barrel than modify the handguard, as I would prefer to have the option of switching around guns etc.

Have a look on RSOV, or even post a wanted ad in adverts for an outer barrel. If I personally had a spare standard length one it'd be yours FOC, so worth a shot asking :)

But wouldn't a Dboys SIR rail system fit anyway? Even if the regular APS handguard is a non-standard length?
I don't fancy replacing the outer barrel, I like the one on it (although it wobbles a little bit).
I just want to replace the handguards because they look cheap and don't compliment the AEG at all.
It's roughly €50 for me to buy a Dboys SIR or €60 to buy an APS compatible Rail handguard (from MIA) both of which can store a battery. I'd prefer one of these options, because a 170mm RIS or RAS can't store a battery so I'd have to buy a PEQ 2.
With college exams coming up in a few weeks I have very little time to be looking for an outer barrel and installing it. I'd like to just buy one thing and install it and it'll work.
    Will an SIR fit?

Thanks :) I mentioned moving the sight earlier but someone sid that it wasn't a good choice.

At the moment I think I'm sorted, because I know someone who has a DBoys s-system rail that they can sell me so I'll see if that fits.
