Well lads i'm after buying a sako varmint in .223 and i have a schmidt 4-16x50 to put on it, problem is that it has a a7 reticle and hunting turrets so its lacking a bit to get the best out of my 223 for long range mags greys and bunnies, so i emailed schmidt to see how much it would cost to change the turrets or reticle and they sent this back

    Hello Conor,
    *
the costs to install BDC are 134,45 Euro plus freight and VAT for each turret. The costs to change the reticle are 241,17 Euro plus freight and VAT.
Please send the scope to our dealer Mr. John O´Malley. His Adress:

The reticle would be perfect if i had target turrets but they're fairly pricey so i'm wondering what ye think, is it worth it or would it be handier to change scope, and if so what would ye recommend, rifle will be used for lamping, long range varminting and some target practice

Nightforce NPR-2 5.5-22 or 8-32x56 and you will never look back, second hand ones have never been as cheap

Ya i was thinking about a nf 5-22x56 or a leupold mark4 if i was selling mine and buying another or preferably swap with somebody as cash is scarce at the moment, which has the better glass out of the 2, ultimately i'd love a zeiss 6-24x56 or a swaro 5-30 with the ballistic turret but they are out of my price range,
I see paul o halloran has a hendsoldt 6-24x72 at the moment, now thats a scope, i'd hate to be lugging it around lamping though, i say it weighs a ton

If you want to look through a couple of NF scopes give me a hollar.
I'm around the Midlands tonight and tomorrow night.

Money is tight with all of us!

Would a dealer let you buy one on the drip?

if it worked out cheaper to swap scopes rather than get turrets fitted i'd like any of these

    Everybody 8s struggling

Post a thread, swap your scope + money for high end scope

Some guy on here might be glad of the extra few bob and still has a scope for their rifle.

    Just an idea

i'll leave it a few weeks and i might do that, strapped for cash at the moment from the new rifle so really only looking for opinions on what to do or what to buy, wont be doing anything for a month or 2

You should put your scope up for sale anyway.
If you get the right price for it you wont be long getting another one.
I have the zeiss 6-24x56 on my 204 and it is a great scope.
I had a zeiss conquest 6.5-20x50 before that and they are good as well.

is there much differance between the optics in the victory and conquest, where did you buy them out of interest aswell? i would love one but the still make about 1500 2nd hand on the english forums

McBride in Athlone often has second hand Zeiss.

Zeiss,Like all scope makers they have some high end and some not so high end.
Only thing is they are made more for Deer Hunting than varminting.

ya that can be seen in europe with the duralyt but the american conquest models have target turrets and some nice reticles, and the 6-24x56 model ain't much of a deer stalking scope;) the older models have the same turrets as the conquest but the newer ones have the nicer lift and twist ones, some day i'll have one, my fav scope, although i have never looked through a z6 yet, i hear they are even better optically

The victory would be the better of the two but there is not much in it.
The high mag zeiss scopes like the two I mentioned are great for varmints and targets.
I was very happy with the conquest but got the victory 2nd hand at a great price. If I was buying a new scope again I would just buy the conquest as its less than half the price of the victory and not as heavy either.

conquests are hard come buy this side of the pond though, i'll just keep an eye out on the english sites i suppose

Did you ask him the price?
You won't be worrying about the weight of the scope because your pocket will be that much lighter :)
    Some piece of kit tho

You shoot Vermin with a Vermin Rifle, I shoot Varmint Rifles :D

So is your .204 is it not :p

<still have not seen a kill or a group out of the legendary .204 yet either >

Yes I am a fan of the yank stuff.
Not a big fan of the Walnut open sight type rifles from Europe

no i didnt ask the price, i was afraid my heart wouldn't be able for it, you'd want some high rings to mount it aswell, absolute tank of a scope, would love to have a few shots with it to see what its like

I have three rifles, two have a zeiss conquest 6.5-20x50.
If one takes weight, optics, magnification, turret style into account....
then you can almost leave the price away because there is very little
on the market that can compete. Just fine for my needs at least.
I took one to a German scope manufacturer this year and asked them to
look at it as there is a niche in the market for Europe.

Ormondprop, for now just put a zero mark on the turrets and work from
there. The 5mm clicks of the 4-16 S&B would be good for target shooting.

I have an as new 6.5-20x50 Mk 4 same as above that I would consider swapping with you.
    sent you a pm.
I was thinking about a new scope for my stalking set up and S&B would be ideal.

    i'd be interested alright
is it the same as the link you posted or this one
    http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=leupold+mk4+lrt+6.5-20x50&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=11122422132646251170&sa=X&ei=AYukTfecHIHQhAeV3fnKCQ&ved=0CFYQ8wIwAQ#
the more expensive one is ffp
    http://www.leupold.com/tactical/products/scopes/mark-4-lrt-riflescopes/mark-4-6-5-20x50mm-lrt-m1/ or this
    http://www.leupold.com/tactical/products/scopes/mark-4-ert-riflescopes/mark-4-6-5-20x50mm-ert-m1-front-focal/

if it is ffp is the reticle thick at full mag
is this the reticle if so whats it like at night, perfect target reticle but is it a bit fine for lamping or late evening shooting or did you find it ok

Sorry, you are correct, its this one.
No the rect is not thick at full mag, you are welcome to take a look at any stage.
The reticle is magnified along with the image, so you can estimate range at any magnification setting.
Tactical Milling Reticle® (TMR®). These reticles provide accuracy of range estimation for hunters and target shooters.
The 30mm maintube offers incredible strength and allows for the greater range of windage and elevation adjustment.
Flip-open lens covers are standard issue with the Mark 4® ER/T® riflescope.
    Durable, subdued matte black finish.
Rugged and absolutely waterproof, the ER/T is built to Leupold Mark 4 standards, and can withstand incredible abuse.
