Off-the-grid living

Anyone here have experience with off the grid living? generating ones own electricity, no phone line , cable or mains water supply. This kind of stuff but i'm mostly interested in off-grid electricity generation, would be interesting to see what kind of setup people have (solar panel, inverter, battery and so on)
