Ok, TT is cramped, the steering is heavy, it drinks fuel, and the boot is pathetic.

Aesthetically, I like it, but living with it for over a year, I felt like a fashion victim.

All true. I didnt drive neither car but was driven and know lads who had them.. Hyndai is still buzzing around 3rd year, TT guy got bored with it after 1 year + couldn't fit his surfing gear into boot :P

Its like with smart phones, I ll always have Android over iPhone.

Don't know what TT you had: I've had 2. I've 'reared' two kids them, with baby seats, got their buggies in the boot, and toured with them and us parents in them as well.

    30-32mpg.

Steering not 1997 Corolla XLi light, true. So ? It's still lighter than my old 911, or poss even my current 968. What does that prove ??

You're right: TT still looks fab.

...At least you'd be a fashion victim with taste, rather than copying a middle aged Fine Gael TD who can't drive.
    ....that's enough of a reason right there ! :D

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Not a fan of the korean but I saw a nice one with an aftermarket bodykit and it's kind of changed my mind but not a standard one. This car can look quite well when slightly modified. There is however no contest when it comes to the interior (where you will spend most of your time). The inside of a TT is a really nice place to sit. Only thing is that insurance can be expensive on a TT. This is hard to understand because the 1.8 is basicaly the same engine as the mark 4 Golf GTI.

Is it not the better engine from the S3? Better turbo and a few other bits. I think they were in the anniversary GTIs too

The Hyundai is certainly no Android.

From that numberplate, even the hyundai wants to be a TT :p

OP, why not open your range a bit, along with the TT and the coupe, there's the RX8, Nissan 350Z, Ford Puma etc.

Note that a lot of the TTs around are FWD too. I think all of the 225s have quattro but only some of the 180s?

Presumably its a different "lad" that has the TT than the Coupe? So thats a misleading comparison.
On the boot size, its not too bad, 4 17" wheels in the boot:

Im confused, given the massive tuning options, superior AWD platform and better base performance, isnt the TT the "Android" in your analogy? The TT also benefits of better interior and exterior design unlike the phone comparison.

I think there's only a small number of 2wd ones out there

If the tt is a smart phone thn the coupe is a nokia 3210

I think there was a 150 bhp offered in uk with only front drive option. A few of the 180 versions are front drive. To be avoided.

The boot is excellent though. Much more useable than any saloon car. Big opening right through to back of front seats. Im talking about the coupe version. I guess the cabriolet might have a silly boot.

I mean cheaper, equivalent performance and built but less posh, bling and brand premium price.

but hey everyone has own taste, functionality requirements and maybe most important factor in recession days is different size wallet.

I d buy new upgraded TT over Coupe but older model not.

The launch versions were anyway. More quattro versions available now though.

    Not even close.

    TT 180 quattro: 7.3 s 0-60, 140 mph top speed.
    Coupé 1.6: 11.5 s 0-60, 115 mph top speed.

For comparison, my diesel S-Max: 10.2, 122. The 1.6 coupé is just feeble. The 2.0 can barely stay ahead of my bus.

why compare Quattro and Coupe 1.6?

1.8T FWD and 2.7 V6 (0-60mph in 8.3 sec) are more comparable. Audi still faster but V6 is the more of a spirit of coupe.

Quattro and 225hp are proper specs for Audi becuse its premium machine.

Because those are the most common models in the OPs price bracket.

There are no 2.7 coupes on carzone. There aren't even any 2.0s. They are all 1.6s. Donedeal has one 2.7 breaking for parts, and some 2.0s, but again the vast majority are 1.6s.

one is a 1.8T and the other is a 2.7 V6,im a self proclaimed V6 lover but i'd have even the FWD TT over a V6 coupe i actualy drove one and the are a mare of a yolk, dont sound that impressive dont handle that well and 2.7 tax will get old quickly when go-getters in their remapped rep mobiles are leaving you for dust :D

Lol, I dont get your "inventive" obsession with defending the H-coupe. Even in your warped 1.8T vs 2.7-V6 Coupe comparison the Hyundai is slower. When comparing the garden varieties as noted that H-Coupe is even more turd like.
Yes, it is less posh, less bling and its cheaper.. you list that like its a good thing to be $hitty all show no go.

Personally I don't think a heavy and gutless engine with FWD really captures the spirit of a coupe. Imho a coupe should be quick and handle superbly, and while I've never driven one I suspect the 2.7 H-Coupe isn't really either of these.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,528 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

My old 16 year old FTO had 200bhp from a v6, but it was only 2.0

The Coupe 2.7 doesn't make sense when you consider the huge road tax that goes with it.
Consider all the cars you could buy if you were willing to cough up the tax (Nissan Skyline etc) nobody bought these new in Ireland, and nobody buys them used either.

If it had performance to match it's ridiculous running costs then maybe there'd be a case for it.

OP you won't go too far wrong with a 320d

    /Thread.

Op see below, doesnt look bad, fact its from dealer, with reasonable mileage, and quattro are pretty good points...

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Audi/TT/1.8-COUP/201114201910613/advert?channel=CARS

    182bhp is more than adequate!

Both are FWD and thats simply wrong for coupe, however 6-cylinder sounds better in coupe at least.. but yea..I never take in concern huge TAX in Ireland so 2.7 in Hyndai is not worth it then ofcourse

Eh no, all the proper TTs are AWD. And "6-cylinder sounds better in coupe at least".. what does this even mean? In theory sounds better? But its a crap engine.

6 is crème fraîche, 4 is low fat sour creme. Another reason why TT is for ladies.

lol, seems as you seem obsessed with the image thing, I have never ever seen an alpha male driving a Hyundai Coupe, they are worse than a TT for image, they're not a proper sports car, a Celica p1sses all over them so they are not at all remotely comparable to a TT.

I wouldn't spend thousands on either but a Coupe is more a hairdressers car than the TT.

Well I have a 12pot Coupe so you arguing with me over a weak ass V6 or a boosted but ultimately toylike 4pot is a amusing..

If we were comparing a torque-y BMW V8 650i vs a boosted 4pot yeah no problem, but not an asthmatic V6 in a FWD car. Even I recognise its faults but would take the boosted 4pot everytime (as would most car people it seems).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,597 ✭✭✭tossy

It might only be a little 4 pot but the 1.8T is one of the finest VAG engines ever,it is infinitely tuneable and will go forever and is a great engine to push on.

To put it into context VAG had a 2.8/2.9 V(r)6 in 1991 that put out 190bhp,i think Hyuandai were still makking diggers and hi-fi's back then :D

Anyone opting for the Hyundai over the TT clearly hasn't a clue about cars! The TT isn't the greatest 2 seater ever made but compared to the Hyundai coupe the gap is so large it might as well be an E type jag!
