He does the early morning shift usually, he is actually very good. Music choice always pretty interesting, and I think he has a nice way about him. Big improvement on Drek/Brek thats for sure.

    Shay Byrne....former painter/decorator.

He is adequate enough in the early slot, but does have a tendency to overdo the old 'banter' with the business/sports reporters.

    Would agree with that critique.

A tendency is a massive understatement, IMO.

In fairness to him, I think he did John Murray's show before and was not too bad on it, and by accounts here he seems to be OK on this too.

The banter stuff and fake laughter on Risin Time is dreadful though.

40 minutes into the show and only one taped interview played.

I don't know why they bothered coming into work today at all.

In before the Nirvana cover gets mentioned:

The proper pronunciation is "oo-koo-le-le", not yew-kelele

I love that this guy is doing light-entertainment radio on Mooneys show much better than Derek ever could.

Cue him never getting to sub in again :D

It's also nice hearing Brenda being treated as a fellow human being and treated as an equal and not some whipping-girl.

Delighted to hear Shaun in good form, lovely man, knew him 25 years ago but often wondered where he went to as you couldn't miss him, had many the pint with him in the Flowing Tide back in the day.

I really enjoyed Brenda's piece with the very tall man, I was surprised with how sensitively she dealt with the topic. I'm really enjoying the show this week.

How do you arrive at that conclusion?

How do you arrive at that conclusion?

It's the original Hawaiian pronunciation: http://www.forvo.com/word/'ukulele/
Yew-ke-lele is the americanisation of the word.

He's very easy to listen to, and he doesn't talk down to Brek. No eurovision, sausages, jedward, Mary Button, Louis Walsh nonsense either.

Derek has to go. If he wasn't on after Liveline, his listeners could be counted on 1 hand.

To be fair, He's not the worst.

    The new guy. Not Derek

really liked the bit with the lads doing reinterpretations of well known songs.

some actual tallent on display for once (before derek went off on one about eurovision again)

To save Derek, Paul G and RTE wasting four months of time, effort and money...

As long as Dustin The Turkey remains in the memories of Europe, Ireland will NEVER win Eurovision again.

I've switched over. But I bet he brings up his family and how they don't agree with him but he wants to say what he wants to say.

Not sure what relevance Mooney's sexuality has to a critique of his show. It is brutal no doubt, but his sexuality shouldn't form the consensus for a critique.

What would a straight fest look like?

Perhaps if he didn't use every opportunity to use the show as a vehicle to promote his gay agenda it wouldn't be.

A gay agenda is about converting straight people to be gay? Or what is it?

Are you presupposing that any item Eurovision related is promoting a gay agenda? It may be a camp competition but I don't think any lines are drawn with respect to sexuality.

Isn't their room for a gay show on the airwaves though? I suppose the station want to get that market tuned in as well And mooney is the man to do that. He is just so fluffy and bubbly and does well in this area.
