Carrickmines, Dublin

Hi all,

i'm looking to move out of my current apartment in harolds cross and looking for something in and around the stepaside, carrickmines neck of the woods. Do a lot of cycling/running so this area is handy for training and my work (sandyford). Can anyone advise me on what this area is like to live?

Found this place - http://www.daft.ie/searchsharing.daft?id=625397 - seems reasonable for the price (440) and a pleasant enough place so i think i'll enquire and see what the story is As i said i don't know this area all that well so i'd really appreciate peoples opinions on the area and what i should be paying?

Not sure about Carrickmines but you can't go wrong with Stepaside. You can walk to Sandyford. Gallops Luas is around the corner, 10 minutes walk. Nice pubs in Stepaside Village. 10 minutes drive from Dundrum for cinema and restaurants. 10 minutes drive the other direction and you're out in the countryside for hiking and running, etc. There's also a cool right of way just outside the village which brings you up to the Blue Light in about 10 minutes. You can carry on up to Three Rock for hill running or mountain biking. Alternatively you could just stay put in the Blue Light and get nicely liquored up.

Carrickmines is an absolutely lovely spot. One of the least known yet nicest parts of Dublin.

If you have a car you'll like living there!

This may be an exaggeration - how about 26 minutes? For travel to Sandyford Industrial Estate and the city, using Glencairn stop may be more useful.

I'm saying you first link goes from glencullen/kilternan, your second doesn't work but has a start point that isn't stepaside either.

not that I'm aware of, although linking to google map directions is notoriously unreliable as they recalculate each time. so maybe you think you are posting one way of going and on different browsers and OS they come up going the long way around.

Firstly, you clearly haven't been in Stepaside for a long time. There is no Spar at the cross roads. Secondly, you should try actually walking from the village to the Gallops Luas stop instead of calculating it on a map. You would find that it takes 10 minutes.
