Where in Tir Chonaill was Aodh Rua Ó Dónaill from?

After this thread, I'm thinking of paying my first proper visit to Tir Chonaill - I visited the Franciscan Monastery in Donegal town years ago - and I'm wondering where would I find the remains of the Ó Dónaill/Ó Domhnaill lordship there. Are there any inauguration sites as there are for the Ó Néill in Tulach Óg outside…

Is there a museum which tells the amazing history of the area?

I was always under the impression that he was form Ballyshannon, or at least strongly associated with the area. There is a lake and waterfall named after him there. Wasn't the castle in Donegal Town the stronghold of the O'Donnells?
