Love how the title calls it a T. rex ancestor only for the article underneath to say that it was an evolutionary dead end that did not give rise to Tyrannosaurus.

Damn, you beat me to it! Found out about Daemonosaurus last night, but I was too tired to post about it here XD

By the way, Adam Khor approves of the name. A welcome change after so many named-after-a-place-saurs.

Pros of the 'golden age' of Chinese Paleontology

    - Lots of amazing new new dinosaur discoveries.

    Cons

    - Lots of unpronouncable new dinosaurs.

Oh, I have no problem with the pronunciation... it's the lack of creativity that annoys me. :S We need more "classic" sounding names for dinos; Daemonosaurus, Teratophoneus and Titanoceratops are the proof that there are still plenty of cool combinations XD

    Good grief are they real?

*runs to do a bit of googling*

Gigantoraptor is very real (and deserves to be in Jurassic Park IV!). Gigamegatyrannis... I don´t think so but it would be awesome XD

By the way, I've been thinking... what if the big curved teeth in the front of the Daemonosaurus' jaws were for biting off small chunks of flesh from larger animals? You know, like cookie-cutter sharks?

What could be more awesome then a Rex on a hog?
    (one with specially designed handlebars.)

    Back on topic,

Looks small, what size was estimated?

Those teeth remind me of a croc

    You mean a gharial?
TBH, if you ask me, those teeth look nothing alike...

I ment forward pointing and overlapping. That thing had a serious overbite. I'd find it hard to imagine it being able to get much chomping power into them as they were so far from the jawline.

Actually, the species name "chauliodus" is an homage to the Chauliodus viper fish :>

Actually, you would be more correct when I come to think about it.
