Catherine Zeta-Jones, who won the Tony for her performance in A Little Night Music on Broadway while simultaneously helping nurse her cancer-stricken husband, Michael Douglas, back to health, was understandably under some pressure last year. Who wouldn't behave erratically in those circumstances? Apparently worried about her mental state and preparing to go work on a movie this year, she checked into an unspecified medical facility to "make sure she's in top form," according to a friend. People reports that it wasn't substance abuse or exhaustion that led her to seek help for five days at an inpatient clinic, but in fact her bipolar II disorder. Which since her stay, friends say, has cleared right up. TMZ, however, is a bit skeptical of this story: They report that she was at Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut, which treats "psychiatric and substance abuse disorders." And on Monday, when they contacted Zeta-Jones's publicist, they say the spokeswoman suspiciously denied that the actress had checked in anywhere. Whatever the case, we're glad she's in top psychological form now.

    Rehab from Bipolar Disorder

She could have been suffering depression for years and besides bipolar differs. She has 'mild' bipolar if you like. Not the full effect of type 1.

Dont know why she is coming out with it now though. Maybe is going to be leaked and decided to get there first!

Other media outlets are saying that it was treatment for manic depresssion. Either way, the woman has had a pretty tough year and may well have required some help. She is only human after all.

How the hell can rich people suffer from depression?

You do not have to be poor to be depressed:rolleyes: There are many reasons that people suffer from depression not just financial.

Most celebrities seem to have a screw loose, and are all probably depressed, not knowing when the next gig's going to show up, or even if another one's ever going to materialise.

Probably mild bipolar; bound to happen considering what a tough year that family's after having.

Not commenting on Catherine specifically, but bipolar is just one of the recent fad illnesses that the celebs are "catching."

Swine Flu was another one they were all catching. Got them all plenty of publicity, particularly the ones whose careers were stalling.

They are just desperate for attention.

^ Imogen Thomas notoriously "caught" swine flu.....then sold her sob story to a tabloid.

Catherine Zeta Jones doesn't strike me as the 'attention whore' type tbh..

She has been through the mill recently.. I wouldn't be surprised to hear she had some sort of breakdown..

I hope she gets well soon.

Very clearly and sadly that the stigma of mental illness is alive and well in ireland going by the comments on this thread.

My cousin suffers badly with bi-polar depression and has checked into various facilities three times since she was diagnosed a couple of years ago. It's a way of staying healthy and keeping it under control if it feels like it's becoming too much. If she's feeling a bit shaky, then Catherine Zeta Jones is doing the right and healthy thing. What do people on here expect her to do?? It's her mental health for God's sake.
