    Soldiers Of Fortune

Brendan Fraser, Tom Welling & Elena Anaya To Star In TV Remake Of Action Feature ‘Soldiers Of Fortune’ For SVOD Viaplay
Brendan Fraser is to star in The Professionals, a loose remake of the Christian Slater-fronted action movie Soldiers of Fortune for Scandinavian SVOD service Viaplay.

The Mummy and Trust star is to front The Professionals, based on the Jeff Most-produced film, alongside Smallville’s Tom Welling, Wonder Woman’s Elena Anaya, John Wick 3’s Saïd Taghmaoui, Inglourious Basterds’ Ken Duken, Force Majeure’s Lisa Loven Kongsli and Das Boot’s August Wittgenstein.

The ten-part English-language series, which has just begun filming in South Africa and Ireland, was commissioned by Viaplay with German broadcaster RTL II pre-buying the free-TV rights.

The Professionals is set against a backdrop of international espionage and corporate sabotage in the 21st century’s privately-funded space race and follow Welling as a hardened former counterintelligence officer Captain Vincent Corbo. After their advanced medical satellite explodes on deployment, billionaire futurist Peter Swann, played by Fraser, and his fiancée, medical visionary Dr. Graciela “Grace” Davila, played by Anaya, turn to Corbo. Corbo assembles a team of experienced professionals to investigate the incident. They learn that any combination of Swann’s business rivals, corrupt governments officials, and a shadowy crime syndicate could be behind the attack and represent a continued threat. Duken plays a Europol agent seeking to thwart the security team’s efforts.

The first three episodes will be directed by Spooks: The Greater Good director Bharat Nalluri. The series was created by Jeff Most, who has produced features including The Crow and The Specialist and it is loosely based on Roadside Attractions’ feature film Soldiers of Fortune. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Face/Off producer and writer Michael Colleary will serve as the series’ showrunner and head writer with Katy Most, Lwazi Manzi and Aoife O’Sullivan producing alongside co-producers Kim Williams and Natalie McAuley and associate producer is Jessica Smith. Jeff Most, Tristan Orpen Lynch, Michael Auret, Howard Cohen, Eric d’Arbeloff, and Jennifer Berman exec produce alongside Herbert L. Kloiber, Thomas Augsberger, Cosima von Spreti, Daniel Wagner, Maxim Korostyshevsky, Bharat Nalluri, Fredrik Ljungberg, Brendan Fraser, Tom Welling and Elena Anaya.

The series is a production of Most Media, Subotica, Spier Films Production and Roadside Attractions in association with Jeff Most Productions, Highbridge Production, Tele München Group and Viaplay.

Tele München Group is handling worldwide sales via its subsidiary TM International, which are part of Fred Kogel’s new company, which brings together Tele München Group (TMG), Universum Film, i&u TV and Wiedemann & Berg Film. It will launch the series at Mipcom.

“This is the kind of television that couldn’t be more timely or topical as it imagines billionaires using their wealth to deploy private military units to achieve their political and business goals,” said Jeff Most.

Roadside Attractions’ Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff added, “We could not be more thrilled about the cast and creative team behind The Professionals. This is the second series, the first being Lionsgate TV’s Dear White People on Netflix, that we’ve helped bring to television based on one of Roadside’s theatrical releases.”

Yeah, Happy! seems to have done better on Netflix than on Syfy. Syfy seem to cancel alot of good shows, Blood Drive and The Expanse are two I can think of

No surprise that The Ranch is ending, always going to happen once Danny Masterson was fired. It was going down a Cul de Sac and there wasn't that much scope to expand on any storylines so they just ended up going round in circles.

Disappointed with Sneaky Pete though, thought the last series was the best one yet and still plenty of places this show could have gone.

    The Lost Symbol

NBC Nabs Robert Langdon Drama Based On Dan Brown’s ‘The Lost Symbol’ From Imagine With Big Commitment
We have the first big sale for the 2019-2020 broadcast development season. NBC has given a production commitment to Langdon, a drama based on Dan Brown’s thriller novel The Lost Symbol, from Daniel Cerone (Motive, Constantine), Imagine Television Studios, the TV arm of Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment, CBS TV Studios and Universal Television

Written and executive produced by Cerone, Langdon follows the early adventures of famed Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, who finds himself pulled into a series of deadly puzzles when his mentor is kidnapped. The CIA forces him onto a task force where he uncovers a chilling conspiracy.

Brown also executive produces with Imagine TV Studios’ Grazer, Howard, Francie Calfo, Samie Falvey and Anna Culp. Imagine TV Studios, CBS TV Studios and Universal TV co-produce.

The Last Symbol is the third Brown novel to involve the character of Langdon, following Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code, and is set after the events of The Da Vinci Code.

The Langdon TV series is a natural extension to the Robert Langdon universe Imagine Entertainment had built on the feature side at Columbia Pictures with three movies produced by the company and directed by principal Ron Howard: The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons and Inferno, based on the fourth book in the series. The company also had developed a movie adaptation of The Lost Symbol at Sony as a follow-up to Angels & Demons before the studio went with Inferno instead.

Just like the Angels & Demons movie took place after the events in The Da Vinci Code, opposite to the chronological order in the books, Langdon appears to have been conceived as a prequel, focusing on a younger Robert Langdon. Imagine TV set the project at CBS TV Studios through the companies’ first-look deal. The series had been in development at the studio at least since last September.

The movies were a MASSIVE success, The Da Vinci Code made $758.2 million on a $150 million budget, allowing for the rough guideline of twice the budget being breakeven that's a profit of ~$450 million or 3x the budget, Angels and Demons made $485 million off $150 million and Inferno made $220 off $75, I think Hanks had only signed on for 3 movies and if he was to go for another 1 it would have probably been a massive cost. I always thought the books would have been more suited for a TV series than a movie, every chapter leaves a cliffhanger that makes you have to turn the page. Then again, they skipped Symbol for Inferno when making the movies.

I've just realised that I've read all Dan Brown's books, I wouldn't consider myself a fan but his books are awful easy reading when on holidays.

    Worzel Gummidge

Mackenzie Crook To Write, Direct & Star In Adaptation Of Classic British Story ‘Worzel Gummidge’ For BBC
Pirates of the Caribbean star Mackenzie Crook is writing, directing and starring in an adaptation of classic British scarecrow story Worzel Gummidge.

Crook, who made his name in the BBC comedy The Office and created The Detectorists, is adapting Barbara Euphan Todd into two-hour long films. He will star as Gummidge, a scarecrow that can come to life.

The first film, The Scarecrow Of Scatterbrook, sees two young strangers, Susan and John, arrive in the village of Scatterbrook, where they encounter Gummidge. Their world is sent spinning into confusion when they realize Gummidge comes to life. The only person more shocked is Worzel, when he discovers that the children are not in fact fellow scarecrows but humans.

The second film, The Green Man, welcomes another mysterious arrival to Scatterbrook. The Green Man is the creator of scarecrows and keeper of scarecrow lore. He isn’t at all happy that Worzel is consorting with humans.

Leopard Pictures produces in association with Crook’s Treasure Trove Productions and Lola Entertainment. It will air on BBC One later this year around Christmas and is exec produced by Kristian Smith for Leopard Pictures, Lisa Thomas for Lola Entertainment and Mackenzie Crook for Treasure Trove Productions. It is produced by Georgie Fallon and Alex Moody is the Commissioning Editor for the BBC. It was commissioned by Shane Allen, Controller Comedy Commissioning for the BBC, and Charlotte Moore, Director of Content for the BBC.

Crook said, “I’m thrilled to be back working with the BBC and many members of the Detectorists team to bring Worzel Gummidge to a new generation of viewers and reintroduce him to old friends. Adapting Barbara Euphan Todd’s books into these two films has been a joy and I’ve completely fallen for her charming, irreverent scarecrow. Fingers crossed for a glorious English summer as we head out to Scatterbrook Farm and Worzel’s Ten Acre Field.”

Shane Allen, Controller Comedy Commissioning at the BBC, added, “Mackenzie’s widely adored and multi-Bafta award winning Detectorists was a grown up love letter to bucolic England and with Worzel he takes a similar approach to English folklore, rural rites and the magic of childhood. His visionary and fundamental reinterpretation of this classic is that rare and special achievement – a BBC One family friendly comedy.”

Swamp Thing seems to have been cancelled as a result of an accounting error in relation to the tax rebate from North Carolina meaning it would be too expensive to do a second season

The series is based on Jake Adelstein’s non-fiction book of the same name, the series centers on the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, an individual with knowledge of the series told TheWrap. Elgort will star as Adelstein, an American journalist who embeds himself into the Tokyo Vice police squad to reveal corruption. The series will chronicle Jake’s daily descent into the neon-soaked underbelly of Tokyo, where nothing, and no one, is truly what or who they seem.

WarnerMedia has given a 10-episode order. J.T. Rogers will write the adaptation with Destin Daniel Cretton directing. John Lesher, Emily Gerson Saines, and Elgort will serve as executive producers. Endeavor Content will serve as the studio.

WarnerMedia would drop its initial plan of a three-tiered service, and instead, roll up the two pay-cable channels with Warner Bros.’ library of film and TV shows.
