Better Call Saul animated spin-off in the works

Better Call Saul may be about to bid farewell, but AMC isn’t letting Jimmy McGill slip away from our screens just yet, with a new animated spin-off series in the works.

Called Slippin’ Jimmy, the show will follow the adventures of a young Jimmy McGill and his childhood friends in Chicago, Illinois. Told in the style of classic 70s-era cartoons, each episode is an ode to a different genre of film: spaghetti westerns, paranormal thrillers, silent films, and more. It is by Better Call Saul’s own Ariel Levine and Kathleen Williams-Foshee.

It joins a number of new spin-off projects in development at AMC as it looks to boost its digital programming to engage fans across platforms such as YouTube. Produced by AMCN Digital Originals, the spin-offs will follow in the footsteps of Bottomless Brunch at Colman’s, created and hosted by Fear the Walking Dead’s Colman Domingo, which began as a digital short in the early days of quarantine and is now a Diageo-sponsored ongoing series across IGTV, YouTube and more.

Also in the Breaking Bad universe will be the fourth and final season of the two-time Emmy and Critics’ Choice Award-winning series, Better Call Saul Employee Training from Dan Appel and Bacon and Sons, also written by Levine.

Other projects also in development include Dead in the Water, a scripted series that ties into Season 6 of Fear the Walking Dead, which tells the story of a submarine crew fighting for survival, cut off from the surface world just as the apocalypse hits, becoming a nuclear-fuelled walker-filled death trap with no way out. The digital series is written by show writer Jacob Pinion, and produced by Ian Goldberg, Andrew Chambliss, and Scott Gimple.

Better Call Saul’s Rhea Seehorn will star in Cooper’s Bar, about a one-of-a-kind watering hole born of one man’s dream for the perfect tiki bar experience… located in the backyard of his LA bungalow. The series revolves around the antics of this neighbourhood (backyard) bar, centering on Cooper, played by Louis Mustillo (Mike and Molly) and his loyal, offbeat friends. It also showcases. The digital series is executive produced and co-directed by Seehorn, created by David Conolly, Hannah Davis Law, and Nicholas Morton, and executive produced by Evan Shapiro, Louis Mustillo, and Alfredo de Villa.

“As we develop and curate new, high-quality ad-supported environments, we are marrying our proven creative ability with expanded reach, opening up new distinct destinations for our fans and meaningful opportunities for our advertising partners,” said Kim Kelleher, president of commercial revenue and partnerships for AMC Networks.

Hulu Orders Australian Animated Comedy Series ‘Koala Man,’ Justin Roiland to Produce

Hulu has ordered the animated comedy “Koala Man” to series.

The series hails creator and executive producer Michael Cusack, with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez onboard as executive producers and showrunners. “Rick and Morty” and “Solar Opposites” co-creator Justin Roiland will also executive produce along with Princess Pictures and Bento Box. 20th Television Animation will serve as the studio.

Hulu has ordered eight episodes of the family comedy, in which the patriarch (voiced by Cusack) lives a not-so-secret identity of Koala Man, an Australian suburban superhero with no powers but a burning passion to snuff out petty crime and bring order to the community.

This is not the first time Roiland and Cusack have worked together. Cusack’s viral YouTube hit “Ciggy Butt Brain” caught Roiland’s attention, with Roiland later asking Cusack to create an Australian version of “Rick and Morty.” That led to the animated project “Bushworld Adventures.” The 11-minute special infamously aired on Adult Swim on April Fools Day in 2018, one year after the surprise premiere of “Rick and Morty” Season 3. Variety exclusively reported that Cusack had set up the animated series “YOLO: Crystal Fantasy” at Adult Swim last year.

    Hold On For Dear Life
The world of crypto currency and non-fungible tokens is becoming increasingly mainstream – so much so that you can now buy your morning Starbucks using Bitcoin.

This world is now extending to television.

Beacon Pictures, the company behind long-running ABC drama Castle and feature films such as Air Force One, is developing what it calls the first scripted series about and financed by crypto.

The comedy Hold on for Dear Life is being developed as a ten-part series with principal photography set to commence in August in Puerto Rico.

The show is being financed using blockchain technology – it will “tokenize” portions of its profits into a cryptocurrency token, built on Ethereum, a technology that is essentially digital money, allowing investors to receive pro rata net profits from the series directly into their digital wallets.

Didn't NBC have pretty much this exact show about 2-3 years ago?? It was absolutely awful and was cancelled very quickly. In fact, it was so bad that I can't even remember the name of it - it really was that forgettable!

    Inside Man
Netflix has boarded its latest BBC drama, taking the international rights to Steven Moffat’s limited series Inside Man, which has assembled a stellar above-the-line cast ahead of production taking place later this year.

Deadline can reveal that Oscar-nominated Supernova and Spotlight star Stanley Tucci has been set in the title role of the Inside Man, while he will be joined by Doctor Who and Des actor David Tennant, and The Pursuit of Love and Dracula star Dolly Wells. Rounding out the headline cast is Lydia West, who featured in the acclaimed Channel 4/HBO Max series It’s A Sin.

Doctor Who and Sherlock writer Steven Moffat is keeping plot details firmly under wraps, so much so that only he himself knows how the story will conclude. That means Netflix and the BBC are in the dark about how Inside Man will end.

Maas announced on Instagram that she is actively working on the script for the pilot with Moore.

“So, it’s official (and thank you, Josh, for accidentally spilling the beans! ): Ron Moore (creator of Outlander and one of my creative idols) and I will co-adapt ACOTAR as a tv show for Hulu!” Maas said. “I’m currently hard at work writing the pilot with Ron (!!!!!), and while there is SO much more news to share with you guys about bringing this series to life, it just feels so great to finally be able to talk about this!
