    National Guard
Fox is developing an untitled single-camera comedy written by and starring The Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood, Jr. He will executive produce the project with fellow actor-comedian Denis Leary as well as Jack Leary via the father-son duo’s Amoeba production banner. Fox Entertainment is the studio.

In the show, working in service to a bunch of thankless Americans, members of the oft-forgotten National Guard use their time on domestic deployments to come up with new ways to pat themselves on the back, even though they don’t deserve it. All while honoring commitments to their community, their families and their day jobs.

    Arena Mode
Heavy Metal, the iconic science fiction and fantasy magazine, is making its first moves into television with an adaptation of Blake Northcott’s trilogy of novels Arena Mode Saga.

The company is adapting the books for the small screen with the first book in active development after optioning the rights to the sci-fi thriller.

Heavy Metal, which was first published in 1977, is known for its blend of dark fantasy, science fiction, erotica and steampunk. It is responsible for the illustrated magazine, a slate of comics, a podcast network and the 1981 feature film Heavy Metal, which featured the voices of John Candy, Eugene Levy, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman.

The first Arena Mode novel follows Matthew Moxon, a young man living in a dystopian future in the year 2041. Moxon discovers he has an aggressive brain tumor and enters a deadly sporting event with the hopes of winning enough money for life-saving surgery. But in Arena Mode, a deathmatch-style tournament where thirteen superhumans fight for a multi-billion dollar prize, he’s the only competitor without a super power. With the odds stacked impossibly against him, Moxon fights to not only survive the wrath of his competitors, but to unlock the mysteries buried within the Arena itself.

‘Superstore’ Spinoff ‘Bo & Cheyenne’ Not Moving Forward at NBC

“Superstore” has really, truly closed its doors. “Bo & Cheyenne,” the spinoff from writers and exec producers Bridget Kyle and Vicky Luu that would have focused on Johnny Pemberton and Nichole Sakura’s characters from the mothership series, is not moving forward, a source close to the project has confirmed to Variety.

Cleveland.com first broke the news on Friday.

“Unfortunately, yesterday NBC notified us that they’re not going forward with the ‘Superstore’ spinoff,” Kyle, a Cleveland native, told the site. “So, it will just have to live on in our hearts and on my hard drive.”

News of the spinoff development first landed in December. “Superstore” creator Justin Spitzer would have executive produced the series via The Spitzer Holding Company alongside Ruben Fleischer and David Bernad of The District; Universal Television would have been the studio, where Spitzer has an overall deal. Luu and Kyle had been with “Superstore” since Season 2 and previously wrote for Fox’s “The Grinder” and NBC’s “Marry Me.”

I liked Superstore but no way were those two interesting or funny enough to carry their own show. They were fine as minor characters.

Have to agree.. Superstore was a surprisingly good show, but I don't think any of them individually or paired would be worth a spin-off show... except maybe Glenn's hardware store ;)

U.K. channel BBC Three has commissioned “Wrecked,” a six-part comedy horror series from Fremantle’s Euston Films (“The Sister,” “Dublin Murders”).

Written by emerging talent Ryan J. Brown, the six-part series is set aboard a mega cruise ship. It follows 19-year-old new recruit Jamie as he joins the crew in search of his missing sister. She was working aboard the same vessel on a previous tour and never made it home. Jamie is initiated into cruise life and gets a crash course on the teen tribes within the staff who party hard and remain oblivious to the bloodthirsty murders taking place on board. Jamie is forced to turn detective and uncover the sinister truth.

Ryan J. Brown said: “In ‘Wrecked,’ the kills are brutal, the laughs are loud, and the heartfelt moments land with real candor. I wanted to create a piece of genre entertainment that had the savvy teen sharpness of ‘Scream,’ the unsettling atmosphere of ‘The Shining’ and the strange upstairs, downstairs mythology of ‘Cabin in the Woods.’ At its core, ‘Wrecked’ is a tense coming-of-age story about a lost, gay kid from Sheffield propelled into uncharted waters of escalating paranoia and self-discovery.”

Sylvester Stallone Reveals He's Working on a Pitch for 'Rocky' Prequel Series

The saga of Rocky may not be down for the count just yet. After six hugely successful films from Sylvester Stallone following the scrappy Philly boxer, the franchise inspired a spinoff series showing the aging Rocky Balboa as a coach to Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), the son of his former rival. Now, per a new post via his official Instagram account, Stallone may be going back in time to explore Rocky’s world before he became a boxing champ.

Stallone posted a photo alongside the caption, "I started out this morning by writing a treatment for a Rocky prequel For streaming. Ideally 10 episodes for a few seasons to really get to the heart of the Characters in there [sic] younger years." He also included pictures of two handwritten pages titled “Treatment for Rocky prequel series.”

“Imagine a time machine that will simply transport us back to the origins of Rocky,” Stallone wrote in surprisingly neat cursive, "a cinematic world brimming with characters that have been beloved by people around the world for nearly five decades!"

The Rambo star continued his treatment by writing that the potential show would take viewers to “the most transformative generation in Modern history: The Sixties.” Stallone then listed some pivotal events to explore in Rocky’s younger years, such as the moon landing, the Civil Rights Movement, the Cold War (and the “Vietnam disaster”) and the feminist movement. “Needless to say,” Stallone added at the end of the list, “The 60s was [sic] a dynamic time.”

Sly wrote that he imagines the series looking at the “rather plain life” of Robert “Rocky” Balboa among “all This Social Seismic Activity [sic].” He continued, “When we first met Rocky in 1976, he was a very lost soul-a forgotten man, a wasted life until he was transformed into a winner. We now see this young man struggling like all young people trying to find their place.”

Stallone offered no thoughts on who could play the younger Rocky. His son, Seargeoh, at 42 would probably be too old for the role (even though he had an uncredited part in Rocky II as Rocky's newborn son), so that leaves the door open for actors who can punch and affect a convincing Philly accent. Stallone wrapped up his IG post by stating, “Here is a small portion of how my Creative [sic] process starts…Hope it happens.” He added he then went fishing to clear his head.

Australia’s Aquarius Films has joined with the U.S.’s Anonymous Content to produce a futuristic crime thriller series “The Subjugate.” The series is an adaptation of a book of the same title by Amanda Bridgeman.

The story follows a pair of detectives who, in 2040, are called on to investigate a series of murders in a religious community which has turned its back on technology and the modern world. The obvious suspects are formerly violent offenders who have been turned into servants, but the town’s puritan citizens are also hostile and keen to avoid having their society and its institutions probed.

The original novel was published in 2018 by Angry Robot Books, and is the first part of a planned trilogy. The second book, “The Sensation” was released worldwide in October 2020 through Angry Robot Books (U.K.). Bridgeman is currently working on the final book in the series.
