    im absolutly miserable now!!
iv had Vaginal thursh every month for the past 2 years!
normally get it once a month or so.. but the past 2 months iv gotten it 6 times!
iv been to my GP numerous times she just keeps giving me a repeat perscription of diflucan, she doesnt seem to want to listen that it doesnt work.
she tells me some people are just unlucky.. i find this so hard to believe there must be some thing!!
about a month ago she ran a full Std work up, she tested for Bacterical vagious and a few other things.. i ran her about 3 weeks later and the results had been in for a week and she hadnt bothered to ring cuz they all came back fine!
    iv tried EVERY thing!
Canestan cream and pessaries, tae tree Pessaries, probiotic pessaries, i went on the candida diet for months, i visited a nutrionist who ran tests on my gut and found i dont have Candida in the gut at all.
Iv tried bathing in tea tree oil,
bathing in cider vinger, and the obvious cotton pants no tights no coloured loo paper no shower gel or femine products etc..
its really taken over my life at the minute!!
i spend most evenings searching the web for cures etc
im only 23 its making me very miserable! !
has any one had teh same problem? and more importantly found a cure???

Do you have a partner? If so, they could be reinfecting you, but you probably already know that if you have spent a lot of time researching it online. Untreated diabetes can also cause thrush - have you been tested for that?

without getting too graphic, you could fill a rubber glove with water, put it in the freezer, and then use that to soothe it. a demonstrator of mine in college who had a tendency to talk about her personal life waaaay too much told some people that idea!! it may work for you too!!

That's awful, OP i got thrush for the first time recently and it's horrible, can't imagine what you must be going through :(

Diflucan cleared mine up so i can't really offer you any advice other than, wash all your towels underwear jeans tights etc as you could be reinfecting yourself. Stop wearing tights altogether if you wear them, and wear cotton underwear.

Absolutely change GP, if she's ignoring and telling you you are "just unlucky" then she's clearly a crap GP. She's a doctor for gods sake, there's a medical reason you keep getting thrush, there are other options than just throwing the same tablet at you when it's obviously not working. If i went to my GP with a recurrent medical condition and she told me i was "just unlucky" i'd tell her where to go tbh. No way in hell would i keep going back to her. Unfortunately there are some terrible doctors out there OP who just couldn't give a c**p.

Are you on the pill? It could be hormonal, coming off or going on the pill could help maybe?
Untreated diabetes can also cause thrush - have you been tested for that?
    +1

Also you say she tested you for std's etc and they came back clear, but did she actually take a swab and test it for thrush? I mean i'm sure she has actually taken a swab and it has come back positive for thrush hasn't she? It could be that you don't have thrush at all? If you don't have discharge and itching and redness and whatnot are your only symptoms, you could actual have a skin condition instead, dermatitis or eczema or psoriasis can all effect the vulvar area and cause similar symptoms.

I think the best thing you can do though OP is go to another GP and explain your predicament and ask for a second opinion.

i used to get thrush quite alot, i changed my diet, little or no bread, wholemeal pastas etc cut down on sugars and refined processed foods. it seemed to help alot.i also ate lots of natural live yougart and its also used to sooth the burning sensation you maybe have below too.

i also bought a thing called boric acid never got used to using it in the end as the diet changed help lots. but its worth looking into.

    Hi OP,

I had the same problem as you for years; for the last 10 years I would get thrush on and off and then the last year or two it's been really recurrent and persistent. I finally went to a specialist consultant about it who prescribed me very strong anti-fungal medication along with a strict elimination diet (diet lasted for about 8 weeks). I'm still on the medication for another week or two and it's like magic. I haven't had any thrush in months and I'm like a new woman.

If you want info on the consultant I saw or the medication he prescribed then please PM me. You won't get anywhere with a GP with this problem as they don't understand enough about it; I asked my GP once about whether sugar would affect it and she laughed and said no! She had no clue.

Please do get in touch if I can help, I'd be glad to share details and give support.

i/ve found something else that helps really well. I went to my local health food shop and I bought a bottle of olive leaf tablets for 10euro, I took 2 tablets 3 times a day for about a week and it really cured it up however I am still taking them now to rid the body of the fungus. Its an antifungal. I am also persisting in taking them (a lower dose) to see if they can rid my toe of a fungus... but for thrush fantastic. Forget the gp.

I had a real nasty time with thrush a few months ago. It kept coming back month after month. What i use now is a gel. Its called Multi-Gyn Actigel. It prevents and treats discomforts while it also counters yeast.

I would recommend cutting out ALL sugar, white flour and refined foods (tough, I know) and take a supplement called five-lac which is available in a health food shop at the Trinity end of Grafton Street. It's beside Boots.

You more or less have to stick to the Candida diet for life, or don't stray too far from it.

You might consult a specialist on the issue.

There is one in the Slievemore Clinic in Stillorgan, I'm sure there are others.
