I do have a satellite dish already and I have an HD Sky+ box and an SD Freesat box. I barely ever use the freesat box as its a cheap pile of rubbish which freezes all the time if I change channel too quickly.

I love the Sky box, but its annoying having to filter through all the multitude of channels I dont have access to.

My TV has Freeview and a Saorview tuner built in and it integrates them together in order. Its just much cleaner than the Sat alternative. Ive been putting off getting a Foxsat receiver because its quite expensive.

What is this Wireless UPC service? Would you have a link for that? Just out of interest, Im happy enough with Net1! Is it for providing TV channels? I had no idea UPC operated up in Louth area.

MMDS (multipoint microwave distribution system) is used for providing a subscription tv service only to non-cabled areas, no internet. Operates at higher frequencies (2500-2700 MHz) than Saorview/Freeview (470-790 MHz). UPC holds all ten MMDS licences in the State.

Rolled out in 1990 but comes to an end in April 2016.

Get yourself an Amiko Alien2. Cheaper and better than a Foxsat and does OSCam too :)

WOW that looks amazing. Customisable too, reminds me a little of my favourite media player XBMC. Now if only I could have this tuner built into my media centre PC, I could do away with set top boxes altogether!

Saw a nice video uploaded by Pog MoThoin from Boards on youtube.

OT here, but it's ironic that Preseli ended up with a mux on ch. 39, after all the braying that was done in this forum a couple of years ago about putting Mt. Leinster Saorview there.

According to UKfree TV, NVTV is now due to start on Freeview on the 27th February 2014:

This has obviously been put back from "late Autumn 2013".

It's actually according to this Ofcom document that is linked to from the ukfree page.

On a different channel topic relating to Freeview, I'm not sure how other border viewers order their Irish channels amidst the Freeview channels but I have mine in the 60s.. which up until this week were free from any Freeview channels. Now I see that 'True Entertainment' launched on LCN 61, so I've temporarily moved RTÉ One to 60.

Has anyone else numbered their channels in a similar fashion and if so, how have they moved about their RTÉ numbering?

  • Registered Users Posts: 357 ✭✭egal

In the old days, in our house, RTE1 was button 5. So, I have the Saorview channels in the 500s - RTE1 501, RTE2 502, and so on. Then I have the radios starting at 521 - RTE Radio1 521, RTE 2FM 522, and so on.

This is how I have ordered my DTT channels. Any channel that is broadcast on DTT but is not listed here has simply been deleted as it'll never be watched due to being shopping, porn, interactive etc.

Any HD channel that launches will go where its SD counterpart is and the SD version deleted.

There is no BBC2 regional in HD
BBC2 NI and BBC2 HD are different when regional program kicked in
As for BBC1 for England, there are no regional BBC1 HD they goes into a blank mode with birds twittering.

Not always. They sometimes have pictures from what look like documentaries during the 6.30pm regional news on Ch.976 (Sky).

Last year I got 3 new Samsung LED tvs (living room, kitchen, bedroom) which had built-in ability to get saorview and also free uk digital tv channels. When I set them up and auto tuned them they tuned in and stored the irish/rte tv & radio channels and also the uk bbc,utv,ch4 etc tv & bbc radio channels.

All was fine but for the last few months the tv in the living room has lost digital text and only gets the old analogue text (the other 2 tvs are ok)
In an effort to resolve this I thought I'd re autotune all the channels BUT the autotune has only picked up 18 irish tv/radio channels with no uk tv/radio channels??
    ~~Anyone know whats goin on?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,285 ✭✭✭Peter Rhea

Only TV3 & TG4 have 'analogue' text now. My Samsung tv won't display it: might be because country is set to UK.

Digital text can be disabled in the System menu.

The disappearance of your UK channels could be down to the signal from the aerial not being good enough, at that tv point anyway. What was UK reception like on that tv? What is it like on the other tvs?

  • Registered Users Posts: 86 ✭✭lipso

the text problem is with rte text - it should work that when you press the remote text button then 'Loading' appears and brings up the menu
On the problem tv when the text button is pressed for rte text the number 100 appears at top of screen like the old text system.
The current 2 other digital tvs get the uk tv & radio channels and they get the correct text
The digital text has been enabled on all 3 tvs.

I had also thought it is maybe to do with the signal being received at that particular tv because previously when we had the analogue tvs the uk channels picture was worse on that tv than on the other tv in the house at that time)
the problem tv also has a sky box connected to it
so in conclusion maybe its a job for a tv/aerial specialist rather than being a samsung or tv fault?

Lack of text on Saorview RTE would be a problem with the tv. Which model no. Samsung is it?

Probably not much you can try anyway, beyond the usual 'factory reset': Menu > System > Setup (Initial Setup). The default PIN should be 0000.

what does the uk freeview attachment all mean in plain language?

It's the list of channels carried on the Freeview muxes, nothing directly to do with your problem, part of the on going discussion in this thread about DTT in NI.

Can you test one of the other TVs at the problem TV point?

The regional stuff doesn't interest me, so I can happily watch BBC TWO HD instead of the SD one. I have saved the SD one on 998 just in case. BBC ONE NI SD is on 999 so i can access the red button content when watching any BBC channel as if it is deleted it wont work and the TV constantly flashes a box on screen saying there is an error.
