Six One News

    Hi folks

Does anyone else think that the quality of the Six One News on RTE has become very poor? Here is why:

    1. Politics, Politics, Politics - that takes up most of the broadcast
    2. When there is a major news story outside of Politics, the Politics stories are still first!
    3. Sharon Ní Bheolain, whilst attractive, is very hard to listen to - permanently hoarse and makes a tutting sound at the start of each news item (quite irritating).
    4. Bryan Dobson also sometimes tuts!
    5. Bryan Dobson stands up at the start for no apparent reason!
    6. Instead of sticking with the main story, they come back to it later in the program, around 6.20pm, drawing it out!
    7. Bryan Dobson takes on and off his glasses excessively during the broadcast.
    8. Bryan Dobson looks down at his page for a one word quote!

I have even written to RTE abd they say they passed on my comments to the news desk. No action taken yet though!

Having said all that, I love the Nuacht RTE and the RTE Nine O'Clock News.
Easy to watch, professionally presented and informative.

    OK rant over!

Better politics than 'news' about some random 'celebrity'. Like it or not, what happens in politics affects all of us where it matters - our pockets.

Did you make specific demands in your letter though? For example, did you suggest a 20% reduction in Dobson's glasses removal?

I fear RTE may have been unsure of how to proceed with your complaint in the absence of specific demands.

Oh, and you left off the fact that Sharon looks as though she is going to burst into tears whenever she is asked to interview someone.

And the fact that her questions are actually just statements with the words "isn't it?" added at the end.

It's not a great interview technique, isn't it?

I think Bryan Dobson is the best news presenter that RTE have, he is a good presenter by any standard.

I agree with you. Bryan Dobson is really a awesome caster and I like him lot.

Dobson is a good newscaster when he is with anyone except Ní Bheolain. When the two of them are together there is a childish giddiness. Very unprofessionsal and pathetic really. This was especially evident on the Six One News broadcast on 28-04-2011 just before they handed over to the sports guy.

I think Dobo is an excellent news anchor and is well able to interview a guest on the news also!

And as for Sharon, I do think she is very good newscaster and I wouldn't consider her voice hoarse either... !!!.

She is clearly hoarse and very incoherent at times!!
When Dobbo nd Sharon are together they are giddy and giggling like little girls in the playground. But when they are apart they are much more professional!

That's because the interviewee is more than likely bul****ting and not answering the question!

The RTE television news is way ahead of TV3's effort.

Wow, Sharon looks like she’s on the way to a S&M club after the news!

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, can’t see a newer one!
