Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi All,

I have settled on a talbot in the uk. I am hoping to get it within two weeks, how do I find out how much import duty I will have to pay? Ideally I would like to know this before purchasing the camper

You can't. The lads in rosslare will tell you when you go to clear it. There's no definitive figure, but they go with 13.5% of the omsp

I know i'ts what's the practice is BUT surely it would not stand up to a challenge.

A tax payer must surely be entitled to reliable information to enable him/her assess any tax liabilities BEFORE entering into a transaction which can lead to a tax liability.
An example of this is the VRT Calculator on the Revenues own website which will generate a VRT estimate for passenger vehicles, vans and motorcycles in advance of a purchase commitment.

It should not be acceptable that importers of motor caravans are singled out and denied the same facility.

Is it not time that the trade and clubs combined to fight the present situation, after all the incomprehensible position of the RSA in relation to roadworthiness testing was successfully sorted as a result of the combined efforts of the aforementioned people

I agree. Start a petition and I'll sign it. Problem is that it would only be an estimate they could give you because they would insist on seeing the vehicle before commiting themselves. Having said that, when it bought mine over the guy in the office ( I'd better not say what town! ) didn't look out of the window were he would have seen my 'camper in the car park, let alone walk outside and check anything !!!, and, as I've said before in an earlier thread, I challenged the figure and got it reduced :D.
