Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ok, I got a new bike and I was not aware of the distance needed to keep my leg away from the pipes.

So, I burnt my gear off the pipes. Long story short it was left on it for 3 weeks not due to my fault, like I said it's a long story.

So it's baked on. Plastic from the trousers and some of the inner trouser insulation. I've now being trying for hours to get it off but I've only got half of it with the worst bit not budging.

    I've tried,

Engine oil and oven cleaner and a scrubber of two different grades. I know from the last time I'm going to mark the pipes but I does not bother me that much, just wanna get the black ****e off.

    So any suggestions?

I've been out a good few times since and I've not added to it :D

i would try tar remover(tardis best).then petrol.if these wont shift,i would use heat gun to melt the stuff again and try to quickly wipe it of while hot.be careful with paint though

maybe let the exhausts heat up again to running tempreature and go at it with a brillo pad or some steel wool :)

Oven cleaner. Specially the pink gravelly stuff, comes in a tub. Not only will it clean the pipes, but it will get the shine back better than before too.

Ya think that stuff would also take off baked on road dirt?

Ive tried the spray oven cleaner, it took off some of it but not nearly enough. The pipes are still filthy brown.

Yeah man i had tried that. Ive also tried steel wool.
They both seemed to just polish over the baked in road dirt. Its now slightly shiny brown pipes :D

I think its a lost to get then looking like chrome again.

If they're mild or stainless steel you could try a fine grained sandpaper. Not sure about chrome though.

Should polish off...drill and mop i mean...if you steel wool it you'll just dull it...

Get them bead blasted and use some VHT flameproof paint to paint them.
You can get different colours in the Flameproof, Black,Silver, Red etc
If they are starting to corrode then theres not much you can do.

For some stupid reason I never seen this post :o

So, wow....... After 7 months of

"nice bike, what happened to the pipes" and "that's a shame about the pipes"

    Etc etc.

So I got some autosol and about 20mins left on cold then scrubbed with a simple cloth it all came off. Will try post pics but it's some stuff.

I've tried everything else, oil, petrol, oven cleaner, hd owns brand, some random stuff from Cotters, brillo pads, metal scrubbers, sand paper, knife. I even priced new pipes but this stuff ate it off and no damage to the pipes. I went out and checked it there 5hrs later and it's still beautiful.

Lastly, got to have cold pipes.

    So thanks Seanybiker :D
