Prize bonds from the post office on the quay

    Just wondering has anyone ever bought prize bonds from the post office on the quay or if they know someone who has. What are they like do ya know?

    Mother won 500 on them about 10 years ago. Think she had the prize bond since the 70s lol

    Had great craic with em for over 15yrs never won a cent or even a free pint.
    Took my €10 out eventually and its real value then was probably less than €2:(

    ~some ppl get lucky but I hate them sort of folk:D

    Prize bonds are not an investment.

    They are a way for the government to borrow money and pay next to nothing in interest. Also no investment in the state is risk free. With Irish debt trading at about 10% that means a loan to the government is more risky than the average credit union loan.

    So basically prize bonds are more risky than a post office savings cert or savings account, and less fun than a night in Kilcohen.
