Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Please see the attached screenshot displaying the current partitions I have set up.

I tried to move the unallocated space to SDA1 NTFS, but GParted would not allow it.

I intend to free up more space from SDA3 EXT3 and would like to combine all the unallocated space with the 5GB from SDA1 NTFS for a new partition so that none is going to waste, is this possible?

Maybe if I delete SDA1 NTFS it will allow me bring that space down to the unallocated? I wanted to ask first before the deleting so the installation of a new secondary OS will go as smoothly as possible.

To merge partitions, I believe that they have to be of the same format (I could be wrong).
Linux GParted is a good tool but not the best for merging.
For that I always use the best, Partition Magic.
Sadly you will have to pay for that though - however there are others and I'm sure someone will come along and advise you better. :)

I am intending to only merge them when the space is unallocated, and therefore unformatted, though it would not surprise me if GParted could pull it off!

I have Partition Magic here somewhere, but will only use it once I encounter a limitation with GParted :)

I think the problem I have been having is that the free space is at the end of the disk, and the NTFS I want to enlarge, or unformat and then enlarge, is at the start of the disk.

It is possible to bring the unformatted space to the front of the disk but this would involve moving every single other partition which could take days.

I am investigating now whether it would be possible to create a Windows 7 system partition at 20GB but point C:/Program Files/ at a larger cross OS shared NTFS partition (I know this can be done with My Documents etc already). I could then configure a fixed 20GB Ubuntu system partition containing my home ~ dir, but point all media folders for videos, pictures, and music etc at directories on the same larger cross OS shared NTFS partion.

The purpose of this is to allow me to keep the system partitions on a limited sized HDD at a fixed size, not having to resize either just because I want to install a large program for use under either OS.
