To answer your second question no he did not create the jobs, but did create the field where the factory is built.

In the words of The Bull McCabe".............."God created the world but we created the field"
alan kelly created the field where the factory is built? Supposes he created the streets where the homeless sleep too

As far as I know there are no homeless people sleeping on the streets of Clonmel.

and what did alan kelly say? did he create these jobs too

Oh for Gods sake. The poster posted a good news story about high end jobs for the area. In addition to those jobs it shows the site is getting investment so other jobs there seem secure. He didn't mention anything about Alan Kelly but you had to bring him into it. Is no one allowed post good news without someone having a go at the government or thrown out the homeless line!

Great news. High end jobs. Positive stuff.

Alan Kelly wasn't even born when MSD moved into that field

Heard the extension to the cinema is meant to be starting next month. Hopefully its true. Could do with more screens

That is true you can post if its within the forum rules and I never said otherwise. It doesnt mean I dont think its a grumpy post that had no relevance to what another poster said.

This is the Clonmel thread and I don't think it's too much to ask for some positive posts about what is a good news story. These jobs are high paying and will support other jobs in local services as well.

As for people in the know only getting jobs, considering the qualifications that will be required for these roles it won't be just a case of known mammys boss unless you can evidence you have the skills and experience for the role.

The extension to the cinema is also good news story. Considering whats happening in Market Place with the rates I think it's good that the town has got some good news.

As a private company I guess they are entitled to operate a referral policy to reward existing staff. Presumably new hires need to be qualified Organic Chemists, Process Engineers etc with pharma experience - just going by some of the current jobs listed on MSD website.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong taking on relatives, I actually think it's a good thing as it gives locals jobs.

    You misunderstand me.
The first part of your post is worded in a way that made me think it was in response to a post announceing this news. It left me wondering if a post had been removed or deleted, that's all.

Of course it's good news, MSD has been an employer of high quality jobs since the 70's and hopefully will continue to be for many years to come.

Only some locals. And it creates a situation where some families have two or three in a factory and others none. I had friends who were in that situation but in Dublin they prospered and say the best thing to come out of Clonmel is the road to Dublin

All jobs are supposed to be advertised for everyone.

    Quite a needless cynical comment!

These are high end jobs and the applicants will need a third level degree in this specialist area.

On the question of more than one family member working for the same company, in many cases this makes very good business sense. If an existing family member has already proven to be a conscientious and a dedicated worker of course the HR department should take this into account if the applicant is suitably qualified.

I have friends in Dublin who say the best thing about Dublin is the road to anywhere out of there. Personally id live anywhere before id live in that excuse for a city.

It does not make sense to the people discriminated against and it is not because they are good workers, just plain old nepotism, some of the discriminated may be just as good but do not get chance.

It does not make sense to the people discriminated against
It is not required to make sense to anyone but the employer.

If they have an employee who has a proven track record. Then they are more likely to place a greater weight on a suitably qualified individual who is recommended by a valued current employee.
some of the discriminated may be just as good
Possibly but equally they may be worse.

If given a choice as an employer which would you go for.

  • Registered Users Posts: 373 ✭✭snipey

most of the jobs are already filled, as in they took on 12 operators and around 12 maintenance techs so the rest will be chemists etc

I was afraid to come out today !. Has Gerry Adams gone home yet ?. I could not bear to look on his red scarf as I think there is too much blood on it.

I think I know the rough sleeper that you are referring to and I agree that he doesn't(or didn't until recently) want accommodation.
However, there are at least 7 (that I know of) that are currently sleeping rough.
All would be complex cases and most have a history of substance abuse.

Jobs should be for everyone not for the select few which is creating poverty. yet when the people with two or three in a factory lose their jobs they cry to everyone. people here excusing nepotism represent a small sample of people in Tipperary, not everyone is as happy with nepotism. they can keep their jobs and their products and their cronyism. There are plenty other manufacturers to support
