    Well said.
The thing is George's only notable achievement to date is taking his Dad's good name and business he started from scratch and destroying it, yet he still thinks his achievements warrant his opninions being foisted on the rest of us. A proper cock if you ask me. I've known him since he was a kid by the way nothing new here.

Dont know the man at all what with not being a local but have just been reading some of his posts/retweets on Twitter.....nearly tempted to throw the laptop in the bin here ahhhh!

The new back bar in Bakers should provide a good alternative for another place to head down that way instead of O'Keeffes, they should do quite well

He's not bankrupt, just broke. There's nothing to stop him having as many business' as he wants. They are all separate. Mordaunt Group is the one in trouble. The 2 TV pundits that suggested dropping Sky subscription have no real clout. They don't really know the full story, only what Boy George let them know!

    How do you know?

In any case all the media are pretty pathetic about him

Can we call a truce and talk about something else? Lets not give him anymore headlines than he's already getting. Lets talk up Clonmel, not him.

    Good idea.
Could any of you recommend a nice restaurant for a group of 4? Two are very odd about food and like plain stuff, the others are more adventurous. Budget of €150/€200 for an evening meal. Was thinking of Befanis.

    http://www.nationalist.ie/news/local-news/clonmel-s-kickham-barracks-to-be-transformed-into-vibrant-town-centre-feature-1-5452529

Plans to transform the empty Kickham Army Barracks into a vibrant town centre feature have taken a leap forward with confirmation that the County Council are ready to engage specialised town planning and conservation consultants to draw up a detailed master plan.

The historic military site will become a public, social and education site with proposals that it will include a new Garda District Headquarters Station, Education and Training Board (formerly VEC) offices, educational use of the existing buildings and “public realm/civic space enhancement.”

At Monday’s county council meeting, County Secretary John O’Mahoney confirmed that while the sale of the barracks from the Department of Defence to the council has not been finalised it is “continuing in a satisfactory manner.” County Manager Billy McEvoy said he hopes negotiations will conclude “relatively quickly.” The Department of Defence have agreed the county council can “now proceeding to tender for consultants to prepare a detailed master plan for the site based on the outline master plan document prepared in-house for the former military barracks.”

A time frame for the planning and development of the Kickham Barracks site will be set out when the sale is completed, Mr McEvoy said.

Cllr Michael Murphy, who had asked for an update on the project, complimented council staff for the “tremendous amount of work and effort” that went in to ensuring the historic site will continue to play a central role in the town.

Especially when there is at least two other threads about the same fella.
It's getting to the stage where I only open the Clonmel thread the odd time because it's all about him.

Going from the last message I read on here, I feel like I am going to have to read back through. Do they still have bands playing in Allen's and Brazil's? I played in both of them in 2006.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭dieselbug

Ah 2006, height of the boom, happy days, i have some good memories of 2006, of Clonmel, might even have heard you playing.

    Sadly, only memories now.

it might be outside the budget but anytime I have gone to the Stonehouse its been excellent.

    Beffani's is great also.

I would advise that if you like normal size portions to avoid the Stonehouse. Great for taste but they are small so I wouldn't avoid eating earlier in the day before going there, as some people often do. Would probably be the most expensive in town also.
How about lemongrass? Good selection of dishes. Haven't been there in ages myself come to think of it.
Mr bumbles do a good traditional selection of food, nice place for a chat also. Don't think we've ever had a bad meal there

I've heard great things about the Stonehouse but haven't been there yet. Soon hopefully. It's fine dining and like most fine dining places you won't get huge portions. Never had a bad meal in Beffani's. Very good food and reasonably priced (especially for Lunch). Lemongrass is nice but it's like most modern asian resturants (i think it might be part of a chain). Food is nice and the service is good. Takeaway is especially good there. Haven't been in Bubmles since it re-opened under new management. Prior to the closure it was a good Meat and Two Veg place (roast lamb, battered fish, steak etc). Those four are probably the best options in the town.

But in my opinion the two best options in the wider area are a little outside Clonmel. If you are willing to travel 10 minutes outside the town then the Riverside in Ardfinnan is class. Small little place. Only open on weekends. The chef is french and his Irish wife looks after front of house. It is great food. A bit further out then The Old Convent in Clogheen is one of the best Resturants in the country. Nine courses set menu so it's not a place to go if you are a fussy eater. But if you like good food this is the place to go!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I like the Ardfinnan and Clogheen ones, but our friends are staying in Clonmel. It's a toss up between Befanis and the Stonehouse. Will report on the outcome!

Went to the Stonehouse in a group of ten for an early bird a couple of weeks ago (two were kids). First time there and I think we were there at 5:30 and from 6:15 on some more tables started to fill up. Everyone enjoyed their meal and their were options for everyone. The portions were just right in my opinion. I don't need to be bursting at the seams and have to be rolled out of any restaurant to feel it was worth going out for a meal or not.

    It got the planning permission

In response I must add I'm far from one who would need to be rolled out the door but I do enjoy a satisfying meal, something which I didn't take away from my time at the Stonehouse, shared by the other sub 20%bf group of 10.
Each to their own however and having eaten at other fine dining establishments it's fair to say the portions are consistent.
