Just seen Met forecast on RTE. A mention of possible thunderstorms due to warm humid south (SE) airflow. What do the experts here think?

I personally love a good light show....

EDIT: now I feel dumb.... Just seen the other thunder thread.... Sorry lads

It's looking good, but i would advise against any anticipation because as always only a minority if anybody will see storms this week.

    Keep the fingers crossed though.

GFS is showing good potential for late in the week and next weekend. Worth checking back on in a couple of days.

Remember it's only April, a good omen for June/July.

Netweather radar is showing extensive and fairly heavy showers currently over the wicklow mountains and also a lightish shower that has been sitting over the Dunshaughlin/Rathoath area for the past hour or so. Are these false readings?

We had a very light shower about 10 mins ago - didn't even wet the ground.

That particular shower has almost fizzed out now, rc28. The other band (if it's real) is currently stretching in a line from just south east of Naas all the way out to see through Arklow. Might be dodgy returns though. Anyone see any nasty looking clouds out that way?

GFS has already downgraded those CAPE figures... :P

Just to compare the storms we get here to the storms over in the US, if you look at the scale on the Netweather chart there, it tops out at a max of 3,000 j/kg. The SPC forecast for tomorrow says that CAPE figures "should easily exceed 3000 j/kg".

Seriously jealous of Ian going over to chase those storms!

    :(

Ah well, for us in the east its the potential over the uk we need to watch as imported storms are our only hope!

yes,it got very black, just off the coast of arklow today,I was looking at it and wondering what was going on as I wasn't expecting showers.
It stayed off the coast in my area but we could see the black,it looked heavy!

This setup is perfect for serious ALtocumulus Castellanus storms in the West of the country - Mayo being a prime spot given my several years experience of living in Erris under such set-ups(humid SEasterly drift interacting with Sea breeze fronts = weather dynamite!!!:D)

I want there to either be huge thunderstorms or just leave it nice, clear and sunny.

Nothing worse than a gloomy day in exchange for one clap of thunder

Downgrades galore in the CAPE and LI values on the last run, potential still there though.

That will chop and change on each run though. There is potential there for thundery showers in places on the 06Z GFS for everyday from Thursday to next Tueday.

Could be a few booms and flashes later today, especially in Western areas. :)

After today though, its not looking very good for thundery potential on the latest GFS...
