Yeh they figured people would mix up Asha with Osha , Ashara would have been a better compromise then Yara tho IMO .

Yara sounds a bit like Arya.

Weird that they didn't change either Robb Stark or King Robert (they did change Rob Arryn though).

Watched all of Series 1 in a day the other week. Absolutely love the show, im already looking forward to Seres 2. Ya gotta love the golden age of tv that we live in !

Here's hoping ratings are high enough to keep the show going long enough so that they can film all the books.

Impressive work from you guys, but shocking to see the levels of CGI used in shows these days.

yeah i dont understand why they couldnt just build kingslanding would save a fortune in CGI ;):D

unfortunately for a show like this its essential, and fortunate for us that its available, you wouldnt even know it was only a hundred or 2 miles from where your sitting right now, top work i must say and worth every penny HBO are paying for it,

CGI is cheaper these days than building expensive sets especially for "simple" stuff like walls.

i thought the VFX throughout the show was excellent and very subtly done to be honest, watching the videos above it struck me how little the CGI stood out while I was watching the show..

i know its a bit shocking how much they use green screen, but it probably cuts the budget massively, even in 24 when yerone was getting a taxi outside a federal building, imagine how much it would cost to film that on location,

There are spoilers in that link imo. Nothing massive, but ones that aren't even specifically stated in the books.
We are never actually told that he is a faceless man of Braavos, or even an assassin, although it is a conclusion you come to after reading about it, especially having read books 4/5.

So changing Asha's name to Yara because Osha is too similar annoys me.
They could've changed Osha's instead since Asha is a much more central character. This leads me to think that Osha will have more screen time this season with Bran/Rickon.
not really spoilerific but can be seen as sensitive.

no not as far as anyone knows yet, they might do what spartacus does and tack on the nexts books title each season, so season 2 would be called game of thrones: a clash of kings, but its a bit of a mouthfull (;):D:p) for viewers so id say theyll just stick with game of thrones,

Or they could shorten it to as someone noted earlier in this thread GoT: A CoK :D;)

Roy Dotrice has signed on to Game of Thrones.

Dotrice will be playing the pyromancer Hallyne in the second season of the fantasy series. The British actor has previously voiced three volumes of A Song of Ice and Fire, the George R. R. Martin series on which the HBO show is based. Martin confirmed the news on his website earlier today.

"Yes, it's ROY DOTRICE in the role of Hallyne the pyromancer, chief of the Guild of Alchemists," he wrote.

HBO executives Richard Plepler and Michael Lombardo recently confirmed that they are committed to the show, claiming that Game of Thrones will continue as long as Martin keeps writing books in the series.

Gilly has been cast too it would seem

Too attractive for the role of gilly imo would have been a better fit for the role of Maergery Tyrell then Natalie Dormer tho .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,126 ✭✭✭✭calex71

Ok nearing the end of book 1, all I cna say is tv show is 100% or close enough for the first 75% after that is where it really starts to differ. @ 75% you really get a sense of the characters inner thoughts and motivations and stuff that I don't remember happening in the show at all likely in a fellowship/ two towers way ???

  • Registered Users Posts: 686 ✭✭✭WindmillWarrior

Anyone here anything on the release of season 1 on blu ray? Done a quick search and it seems the normal is for HBO to release the dvds only a couple of months before the start of a season 2 :-(

    Agreed
,can't see Maergery having a large part till Season 3, and then i don't think Natalie Dormer will be in any way suited!
It's the only worry i have in the recent casting

I don't know about him. To Balon was a LOT more weather beaten.

Right, so I just got into GOT, watched the first episode sunday night, finished it about an hour ago, talk about an addictive show, I prefer watching stuff at my own pace instead of waiting weekly to see it, and I'm glad I waited. what a fcuking great show.

    my thoughts:
It looks fantastic, every episode has brilliant production design, can see where they had to keep the budget restrained for the battles and the like but the sets and costumes are superb, Jaime Lannisters armour is amazing in every episode.

The cast are all exceptional, but most of all Arya and Tyrion. both provide the most humour in the show "keep low?!" Its full of great character actors, I love Charles Dance so its cool to see him in a high profile show as Tywin Lannister. I do however, want to see Joffrey die in the most painful way imaginable. Sean Bean does (well did) a great job as Ned, and all the Stark children are great as well.

The opening credits, I normally skip past the credits of a show, but they're so well made (and different every episode which I didnt spot for a couple of shows) it really sets the tone for the show, theme tune is excellent as well.

Its only 10 episodes and yet it has a half dozen hair on end moments already, from the reveal of the dragon babies to Caetlyn watching Robb return from battle and try not to burst out crying with pride as her son rides towards her looking like an absolute badass. some fantastic moments that will make me want to watch it again.

HBO does it again, roll on season 2..

Just 60 pages or so away from finishing Game of Thrones. Then I'm gonna rewatch the series over the weekend, and start Clash of Kings on monday. Can't hold myself back any longer.

I had never heard of the GoT books nor series up to last April, since then I've become a total addict. I'm stuck into A Feast For Crows now (I got ebook versions of books 1-4 from Amazon for $20 - fantastic deal), with the iPad glued to me all summer, roll on seasons 2/3/4/5/6/7 :)

She probably didn't get the role she auditioned for and now she is pretending she quit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,101 ✭✭✭MitchKoobski

She has a face for tv but probably didn't have the boobs for tv...

ANYWAY, I'm about halfway through Clash of Kings atm. Flying through it. It's gonne be really interesting to see how they lay out the second series given the layout of the book. Theres also quite a few scenes that will be hard to carry over to tv. They're gonna need a loooooot of money and structure it better for tv.

So she didn't want to film a nude scene. So what? This series has plenty of pointlessly gratuitous nude scenes as is. At least with shows like Deadwood the nudity never felt needless. This show just seemt to invent prostitute characters that weren't even in the book just so they can get more boobs on the screen.

I call bull****. A "new mistress of the king"? What king? An extra in the background for one of Littlefinger's brothel scenes more likely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭ArthurG

Yup, smells like spin. The chances that some unknown young wan from Dublin could dictate terms as an extra on a big production like this are slim to non existent. I suspect she either didn't get the part, or was given the boot when she got iffy about getting the baps out......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,707 ✭✭✭MikeC101

"The Lucan native will now be rubbing shoulders with the likes of actor Sean Bean...."

Hmmm.... well she certainly wasn't going to be knocking heads with him.

    Great research, Herald.

Worked out nicely for her, her Google searches have sky rocketed in the last 24 hours, some nice free publicity for her....she even admits they told told she be going topless, so she went up to Belfast and wasted everyones time?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 9,940 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tenger

She probably didn't get the role she auditioned for and now she is pretending she quit.

So the August 24th article had her knowing it was a 'raunchy show', that she would be topless (When I got hired for the part I was told that I would be topless and I wasn't happy about that at all.) and her boyfriend wasn't too happy with the role.

Sep 6th article: less than 2 weeks later she walks on set and is shocked to find it is 'like soft porn'. Did she think they were joking with the whole 'going topless' thing?

    Eye's open there love?

"So I'm glad the producers of Game of Thrones did contact me for the role, because now I know I have the face for TV,"

And now TV producers know she has a diva attitude to be avoided and a track record of breaking contracts. Nice way to kill a career before it gets started. But she will always have those two short articles in da Herald to show her grandchildren.
