Finsihed watching the series about a month ago. Thought it was a bit slow to
get started but from the 4th or 5th episode I was completely hooked.
Absolutely loved the rest of it.

Just started reading the book this week. Only 50 pages or so in but the
series really followed it. So lookingo forward to the second series now.

How long do we have to wait?

How long do we have to wait?

    It's being filmed now

It'll be shown March or April next year

15/4/2012 according to upcoming shows in SickBeard.

Just spotted that article about the model, had to laugh at this:
. As well as modelling I study Sports Physiotherapy so I want to be taken seriously, I wouldn't if I had given in and filmed the scene. It was my own fault really because I didn't research the show properly. The money was amazing and the idea of it all was so glamorous but I'm glad I walked away because now I have my dignity intact," she explained.

    because they're completely related fields?

Dinklage won best supporting at the Emmys.

Was Walton Goggins in that category? Should have won it imo. Dinklage's dry delivery is funny but he wouldn't strike me as all that.

He was alright, probably better during the overall series (Justified season 2) but the Emmys is based on one episode from the series selected by the producers which is probably not the best way of doing it.

So she didn't want to film a nude scene. So what? This series has plenty of pointlessly gratuitous nude scenes as is. At least with shows like Deadwood the nudity never felt needless. This show just seemt to invent prostitute characters that weren't even in the book just so they can get more boobs on the screen.
I disagree, the nudity & sex scenes do serve useful functions in the TV show. The character of Ros is the only character they invented to my knowledge and she serves as a foil for Tyrion, Theon and Littlefinger. The TV show doesn't have the luxury of letting its viewers hear the characters' thoughts & motivations as the book does using it's POV style. In such a misogynistic world, prostitutes are a plausible outlet for characters to occasionally loose their lips.

Further, the books are more sexual than the TV show. They take plenty out as it is. If anything the scenes in season 1 help keep the tone of the show closer to the books. There's plenty of violence that could be taken out too but it wouldn't be the same without it.

As for the girl a few posts up; people make funny distinctions... I would have thought there's more artistic merit to (nude) acting in a show like Thrones than there is in modelling. If she's not comfortable with it fair enough, but talking about retaining her dignity strikes me as being slightly insulting to the other girls on Thrones. Emilia Clarke has plenty of raunchy nude scenes but she's a professional actress who gets on with it, and I'd wager will have a successful and accolade-packed career as a result.

As I recall the Emmy was the episode where Tyrion tells Bronn and Shae about his teenage marriage. I wouldn't begrudge him the award but I don't think Dinklage will really get to exercise his acting chops until later seasons.

Just started reading the 1st book. HYPE!

I just finished it, starting on A Clash Of Kings during the week, its such a great adaptation, a few minor differences here and there, the Stark kids ar younger in the book, Jon Snow is only 14 or something but it works well in the series making them a bit older. few other things like its The Hound who tells Sansa the story of how he got burnt not Littlefinger like in the show, but overall its as damn close as they could make it, even the lines of dialogue are direct from the book not altered.

It is great alright. I've gotten so much more out of it since I read the boxes; the detail that went into it is incredible. There's a lot of dialogue that takes on extra meaning too.

My main gripe with the first season is the characterisation of Renly; he's a weakling who can't hold his own bantering with Littlefinger and who is flattered into seeking the crown, while in the books he's smarter and more of a leader. Also, Loras looks like a bit of a weed.

I really can't wait for season 2. Particularly because GRRM has confirmed that a certain scene is going to be included. One that I thought the producers might skip because it might land them in trouble.
I'm anticipating so much RN :D SUPER EXCITED

    What scene would that be?

    Yeah, which scene is that?

I don't want to ruin it for everyone. It's my favourite scene from the books so I really want people to see it. Highlight the spoiler if you're sure you want to know what happens
When The Hound tries to convince Sansa to run away with him and be his. I think it could cause a lot of trouble from the PC crowd (since she's basically a teenager) but I'm team Sandor all the way

It'll be interesting to see how they handle it. Some of the relationships in the TV seem a little different to the books - the above and Jorah/Daenerys especially.

Meh is it really that big a deal? Won't exactly have the same impact as the book as
    she's been aged up.

I actually thought you were talking about another scene which will be rather expensive to shoot and GRRM confirmed it's the episode he's writing.

Feck that! The scene...no...the episode I want to see, as written by GRRM, is
    The Battle of The Blackwater.
. If they get the money they need for series 2 it will be amazing.

I don't think its as big a deal. From the way I was reading it,
he was portrayed as a coward that was piss drunk and he isn't supposed to be a likeable character
. I didn't see it as anything they would get in trouble for.

I would desire to see this scene really worked on as THE centrepiece of the series, so I hope either it takes up most of an episode or is split over 2. It is pivotal for the entire storyline, if Tyrion's 'present' to Joffrey in conjunction with the 'substance' provided by the Guild had not have worked the entire tale may well have been different.

Well my spoiler happens during Spoiler #1 here, so it'd be easy to just include the battle and not what I said, skipping over the fact and
just mentioning in hindsight that he'd run away
As for your interpretation of him, I hope you're just referring to that one scene
and yes, he shouldn't be a likeable character, he's more of an anti-hero. He's twisted and imperfect but you gradually see more and more of his softer side; he's definitely not his brother. Now that I mention his brother I should also ask - can you really blame him for turning craven at that point? With fire all around him?

Do you remember that lesbian scene in yer man's brothel? Artistic merit my a@@!! That was soft porn all the way. I also think the show (which I love) does rely too much on the auld sex scenes for my liking. Knowing that my parents are watching this show downstairs doesn't help matters either...*shudder*:(:(

Could have done without Hodor running out of the forest swinging low and that brothel scene (among others), there's enough of that stuff already. An actual battle would be welcomed.

Hopefully the budget will allow for more, but I wonder if financial constraints were the real reason for lack of battle scenes.
The programme is CGI laden already. Would it really have cost that much to do a few battles? The camp scenes involved lots of cloned images of soldiers moving about.

The victory speech ranks as the worst scene in the series. You can't just film a dozen guys in a field and paste in some crowd cheers.

Best fcking TV show since BTVS. Only program that comes close to it is Spartacus. Viserys and the dwarf man are the best characters. I actually feel sorry for Viserys, he should have stayed longer as he was a great character and I sympathized with his cause for glory.

Well, well… what do we have here? Thanks to a tip from reader Nick, we have a sneak peek at the Game of Thrones season one DVD/Blu-Ray box set artwork. The box art from France had given us an idea of what the US box art might look like, but this more detailed look at the set is even better. We had previously reported that the DVD/Blu-Rays look to be releasing on March 20th in the US, March 19th in the UK and March 7th in France (and now Sweden). You can pre-order season one via Amazonir?t=winiscom-20&l=ur2&o=1 or the HBO Shopimage-4838133-10867449.
Winter Is Coming: I may be biased… but that’s an attractive box set. Can’t wait for the official announcement from HBO to see all the features this baby will be loaded with. If the work they put into the box set packaging is any indication of the disc’s contents, this thing should be packed.

the let down I had when I found out it isn't out til next April :(:(

but it lived up to all the hype that I heard that made me go to watch it... now just a a 5 month wait - might have to invest in the books to keep me ticking over til then

I don't know if you've read the book but the battle 'scenes' in the series were quite similar to the book ; because the story was never told from the pov of any of the protaganists in the battles there was an element of 'lets send our troops off to war' followed 20 pages later by 'who won? we did, yippee' with the actual battle itself happenng offpage.

I get you, and I know the series is quite faithful to the book compared to other adaptations. But I think a few battles would really add to the sense of scale. If they could do it with a bit of tact, not trying to make it into some Hollywoodesque actionfest I think it would work.

Even more scenes of large encampments and marching troops would help.

There has to be some ground given when you change the medium.

I'd strongly recommend reading the books after watching the first series. I watched the series before reading the books, and then proceeded to watch the series again, and found a lot of new insights. It really is a great read. Like Shakespeare with porn and readable english.
