Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Strange Internet Problem

Since yesterday I've been unable to connect with the BBC news website (and indeed any section of it). Message returned is "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage - diagnose connection problems". As their site was down last week, I thought nothing of it, until I noticed people posting links to the beeb in posts around the place....

As a result, I launched vidalia, and - using firefox & going through a proxy which makes it appear I'm in the uk - can now browse the beeb website (all sections).

    Anyone any ideas?

Have you tried clearing your browser cache:
    Press ctrl, shift delete
    select all
    and clear

Just did there now and no joy.

Used the "diagnose connection problems" and it states that "windows cannot find the host name news.bbc.co.uk. using DNS" and that the "Domain name server may be down".

I am having the very same issue. I cannot browse BBC from my laptop or my mobile over the Eircom wireless, so the problem is with the router or Eircom

Just spit-balling here but open command prompt and type this to ping the BBC site:

    ping 212.58.246.84

Okay, you can communicate with the BBC site but can only connect to it by going through a proxy?

For the craìc, check your HOSTS file. (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc - Open it with Notepad)

Only thing that should be in there is:

    127.0.0.1 localhost

    ::1 localhost

...as above there. Rest has the hash in front.

    Okay.

Check your Internet Options (In IE, click Tools -> Internet Options)

Click on Connections tab, then click on LAN Settings. Just want to make sure the Proxy Server is disabled (In this case I'm assuming it is but just to be sure).

Now, open command prompt again and type:

    ipconfig /all

Tell me what address is written beside DNS SERVERS

    Proxy isn't on.

...and, as random as it went, its back. Utterly weird.

Thanks to all who gave advice.

Very weird. Maybe an intermittent network issue??

Jaysus knows, tbh - I haven't felt on top of technology since windows 3.1 and dos 6.0. I tried a number of Brit based sites during the time it wasn't coming up (other than the ones I use on a daily basis) and all worked fine. Anyhoo - back now, so the sacrificed chickens did not die in vain.
