Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Irish Domain Question

I wanted to register the domain name "stopsmoking.ie" but it is already registered. I don't mind someone getting there first, but don't you have to prove that you are a business, or sole trader, or person, who has legitimate claim to register a ".ie" domain? I am a hypnotherapist in Dublin and I have two ".ie" domains and I had to prove that I had the trading names listed to me before I could register the domain. However, "stopsmoking.ie" seems to registered to a university in Leeds, for a counselling course. This seems to have very little, if anything at all to do with the domain. Does this seem right to anyone else?

I was thinking that maybe the original registrant has a registered irish business, which may be entitled to the domain, but it doesn't seem right that the domain is being used for an unrelated business. I was thinking about writing to the Irish Domain Registry about it, but would like to know what others think about this situation first. Based on the strict rules of registering a ".ie" domain, it seems wrong that the domain is used in this way and perhaps with the intention of re-selling at a handsome profit?

Did you look at this: http://www.iedr.ie/index.php/mnudisres/mnuexnotes

Looks like you have a reasonable claim.

    Whois details are:

    domain: stopsmoking.ie
    descr: Richard Boyle
    descr: Sole Trader
    descr: Registered Business Name
    admin-c: AAM175-IEDR
    tech-c: AAM456-IEDR
    renewal: 06-October-2011
    status: Active
    nserver: ns1.blacknight.com
    nserver: ns2.blacknight.com
    source: IEDR

    person: Richard Boyle
    nic-hdl: AAM175-IEDR
    source: IEDR

Says its registered to a sole trader.

Thanks, but I don't think I will take them to the WIPO on this. I have brought it to the attention of IEDR and I am awaiting a reply. Hopefully they will rescind the right for the registrant to hold the domain and I can snap it up as a legitimate claimant.

Cheeky plug, but I build my own websites. Thanks anyway. Out of curiosity, what do people get charged, for say a basic 5 page website?

    The response

    Dear *my name*,

    Thank you for your email.

As per our whois search 'stopsmoking.ie' has been registered to :

    *domain: stopsmoking.ie
    *descr: Richard Boyle
    descr: Sole Trader
    descr: Registered Business Name
    admin-c: AAM175-IEDR
    tech-c: AAM456-IEDR
    bill-c: AAE553-IEDR
    renewal: 06-October-2011
    status: Active
    nserver: ns1.blacknight.com
    nserver: ns2.blacknight.com
    source: IEDR

    *person: Richard Boyle
    *nic-hdl: AAM175-IEDR
    source: IEDR

    *person: Blacknight.ie Hostmaster
    *nic-hdl: AAM456-IEDR
    source: IEDR

    *person: Blacknight.com Hostmaster
    *nic-hdl: AAE553-IEDR
    source: IEDR

This is a valid registration of the domain name.

The IEDR is responsible for the registration of the domain name only,
    not the content
    of the webpage.

    Kind regards

    *name of rep*

It would appear that registering an irish extension and keeping the right of registrant is not very stringent at all. Register a business name for €20 and you're free to get any irish domain available. This almost defeats the purpose, because I could register a business name of "Legal Irish Drugs For Sale" and register the domain Legal IrishDrugsForSale.ie with the domain linking to site where you buy illegal pharmaceuticals from Asia. If the IEDR stop the checking at the front door, who knows what kind of dirty trading can be done in the clean room?

I tried to have a gander at the site, and all i get is this:

    s5zdl4.jpg

    If i "Add Exception"

    I get this:

    30w8020.jpg

    Can't be good, can it?

Well they must have provided enough information to the domain registry for them to be approved to lease the domain name.. If it looks like they are not using it, you could offer to buy the domain from them..

Other than that you will just have to get a different domain name..
