Hey all,

I think a lot of people know about this already. Still...

Informed Performance closed it's doors on Saturday for the last time. I can't go into details of why this happened, but suffice to say we gave it a right go in a very tough economy. We had a lot of success stories it just ultimately had to have time called on it.

So me, my fighters, my BJJ guys etc. will not longer be IPMMA, and you won't see the IP name anywhere anymore.

In a week's time, I will be opening a new gym, called Kyuzo Gym, across the road from Glasnevin Cemetery. This will be an MMA/BJJ gym only, equipped with all the necessary kit and showers, dressing rooms etc. We are working on it right now and hope to have the bulk of the work done by the opening class which will be BJJ at 7pm next Wednesday! I'm really looking forward to it. It's going to be a great place to train and I'm delighted to be keeping a great group of guys and girls together as a team.

On a personal note I'd like to publicly thank all of the people who have offered help and assistance in the last few days from other gyms. It's really appreciated. I would especially like to thank all of the guys from my team who have dug in and assisted with all of the moving that had to be done. It's been a hectic and frustrating few days and I really didn't know how supportive people can be when the going gets hairy, and it turns out all of my guys were fantastic and are still being great about it.

I'll post up details of the new gym and some photos etc. soon. Meanwhile stay tuned to the facebook machine if you're my friend on there.

By the way, everyone can train for free next week once we open. I'll have a full timetable and membership prices up by the end of this week. In the meantime I'm available by pm or by phone for queries.

Yes the affiliation with Robert is very important to us. We're going to have Abmar Barbosa back over real soon and Robert will be making another visit to the gym later in the year as he's busy with some family stuff right now.

I was just down there this morning clearing things out. It's just an empty room right now but over the next week when the builders leave we'll be able to get stuck into fitting it out.

I've trained MA in IP since the start of January and I've got to say I'm really excited about moving to a smaller, more focused spot. Having all the S&C stuff available in IP was brilliant cos I was a bit of a gym-rat, but the more focused distraction free atmosphere Kyuzo's going to have is something I'm really looking forward to.

I've never trained in an MA club before, so this is gonna be great

Sorry to hear the news about IP. Really glad you're keeping up the MA side with a new place. Might be similar to the old place you had before IP which was great atmosphere for training in too! Must be something to do with the coach...nah

Unfortunately they went to the gym 200 yards away because of your high prices. The membership on informed performance was ridiculous. I dont know how it expected to survive with such price demands. It's funny because when I got the tour, an American guy told me that informed performance would only be taking so many members and then closing the books!! I thought this was abit cocky at the time considering the economic climate, turns out it was.

I've never been to IP as I've been abroad for a while, but I used to train with Barry. I agree that it's a shame to see the place go under - Ireland has a shortage of places that are suitable for high-level training in my opinion.

As for the limit on members - this is something I would want to hear in a sales pitch if I was looking at spending money on a gym where I expected to recieve specific attention from trainers. Too many members = too little attention from staff. I wouldn't see it as being cocky.

As for the prices - definitely higher than joining a bog-standard gym, but cheaper than booking time with most personal trainers. I don't think it's fair to call the prices ridiculous just because people decided it wasn't a good value proposition for them. Where I live (Germany), people do not pay high prices for food so the majority of what you can buy here is cheap (yay) and not very high quality (boo) - that doesn't mean that good quality food at a higher price is a ridiculous proposition; it just doesn't work well here from a commercial viewpoint because people here don't see a value in it.

I don't know Barry in the slightest. He could be a complete dick or a really nice guy. He's probably both as most of us are from time to time. But one thing is certain he would have put his heart and soul into his facillity and to see it close would be a crushing blow to anybody! I imagine the stress would have been enormous. Sleepless nights etc, to then kick the guy when he is down is absolutely horrendous. Isint there enough negativity in this country without this kinda tripe!!
Give the guy a break. Hope the new place is a storming success.

this trend is titled "new mma gym", so why are you going off track ? , anyway back on track I hope the new gym goes well and adds to the on-going improving MMA scene in Ireland.

If membership was for using both the gym and mma classes it probably wasn't that expensive for people using both, in any case it's closed now so blasting them at this point helps no one.

- On the martial arts side of things there was top quality instruction in BJJ, Muay Thai and MMA. There was nearly thirty hours per week of classes as well as several hours set aside for open mat.
-There were regular seminars from outside instructors from all over the world like Rafa Mendes, Abmar Barbosa and Robert Drysdale
- On the strength and conditioning you received individual attention from a brilliant strength and conditioning coach with tailored strength, conditioning and repitition sessions to suit your needs.

What more would you like or expect to receive for your membership fee?
How much are you paying at the moment?
How many mat hours do you get per week?
How much do you spend on alcohol or some other non essential per month?

As for Kyuzo i forsee:
-Top quality instruction in BJJ, MMA and Muay Thai
-Seminars from world class BJJ athletes like Abmar Barbosa, Robert Drysdale and others
-Teams competing regularly in top BJJ, MMA and Muay Thai events

Why dont you pop along and try it out?

In fairness Barry's business is just changing and not gone!

in saying that his results speak for themselves so people will pay to train with a team with a proven track record, you should train with them-he usually does a free session for new people to try it out.

no need, im not interested in the BJJ or martial arts side of things. Maybe if you had a couple of different joining tarrifs to allow for weights and cardio members only, this might have gone down a bit better. I was just looking for a decent gym for weights and cardio, IP had that at least, but was too expensive. Dont know where half the defensive idiots here get off assuming im gloating at your loss. its ****, its a pity cos it was a very good set up, just a bit pricey for the times we live in at present, that's the only drawback. only issue was with price full stop.

Even at 85 a month, anyone with the slightest idea about S&C knew what a good deal you were getting with Will on board. If you don’t appreciate that, or didn’t want that in a gym, that’s fair enough. I only trained at IP for 4 months, but it was never a place where someone walked in the door and bogged off and did their own thing. They were getting personalized coaching and instruction from one of the country’s top S&C coaches and access to equipment no one else/very few in Ireland had.

IP was a bargain in the same way spending 12 euro to go to Shanahan’s instead of 8 to go to MaccyD’s is a bargain. You’re getting the same stuff, but the quality and level of service is infinitely higher.

It was priced based on the service you received. Westwood is as expensive, and you get no MA coaching or free personal training. Crossfit Ireland is SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than IP ever was, so is CF Dublin, Combat Workshop, ISI and a tonne of other great gyms in Dublin where you get more personal attention from knowledgeable folk who’ve spent time and money getting to the level they’re at education wise.

They all have different target markets. You’re basically bashing IP because it’s not what YOU wanted to to be? That’s like me walking into Shanahan’s and complaining about being charged for a steak from a waiter, when I wanted a burger in a wrapper, and expecting them to change what they do and their pricing to suit me. And then complaining because the MaccyD burger isn’t as nice or well present as my plate of cow. Ridiculous.

Barry’s new gym is an MMA gym. It’s like me closing my gents tailors and opening a sports shop. Similar things, but different services and products. With different pricing structures to match. Your grasp of what happened in IP and what will happen in Kyuzo’s awful, I’m trying to use examples here because ya don’t really seem to ‘get’ what IP was. It wasn’t just a warehouse packed with gym equipment for you to play about and make no progress on.

Sometimes its easier to drag yourself along to train if you are training for something. If you fancy trying BJJ at some point, come along. Its amazing for cardio fitness and you'll see strengths gains too. Barry (the owner operator of Kyuzo gym) has set different tarriffs for a monthly rate, a day class rate as well as an open mat drop in rate (http://kyuzogym.com/membership-details/)

@chiefbrody 85 a month is extremely competitive, your initial posts were very distasteful, and I'm sure you have offended quite a few people here. Also I am sure you have no notion or clue what the circumstances were in relation to the gym closing. The amount of love that went into that business.

Sometimes I'm amazed at people's arguments, when your wrong or out of place just accept it.

In any case, I'm not bothered about what's gone before I'm just too excited about the future to care . How about I offer you a free session in the Kyuzo to make up for the crushing blow of finding out how much IP used to cost when you came in 18 months ago? Don't think I can say fairer than that.

Anyway the builders are still in unfortunately so the gym will now open on Wednesday 4th May for it's first classes. Starting with:

5pm- teen BJJ
6pm- Women only MMA
7pm- Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
We might be able to get in on Monday afternoon too for an open mat for any current members, but for any new members, Wednesday night is the session to go to.

Some photos of the work going on in the new gym are on my facebook, particularly the amazing graffiti work done by one of the lads and his mate.
