There is a protest on Easter Monday April 25th agaist cuts to SNA'S and resource hours at 3pm at the Radission hotel when Education minister Ruairi Quinn will be present for the INTO conference. Its important to remember that these cuts will impact upon not only those who have specific educational needs eg dyslexia, dyspraxia, behavioural problems but also children from the travelling community and those for whom english is not a first language.

These children are in no way responsible for the mess in our country and should not be made to suffer in this way. The new government was elected on the basis of new ideas and doing things differently so now they have a chance to put their money where their mouth is. Reverse the cuts Ruairi Quinn!

    Fair play.
Unfortunately both the students and the sna's are merely numbers that must be reduced to a target quota given to the local seno's. They don't give two flying f.ucks about the children, their needs or their welfare.

What people don't realise is that the "normal" child in the class will be equally affected because when adhd Johnny has no one specifically looking after his needs he will be a massive disruptive influence on the rest of the class, through no fault of his own.

This is a great idea, I like the way its been organised to coincide with the teachers conference. They should definitely take a pay cut and work longer hours to ensure that their pupils get a decent education.

    From here:

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0425/into.html

"On his way in to the hall the minister met a group of parents of children with special needs protesting over cuts to the number of special needs assistants in schools.
They were joined by a small group of teachers, including newly-qualified teachers.
Amid some heckles from the group Mr Quinn told protestors he understood why they were there
