You can get the jobseekers allowance for a year when you are starting a business. Enterprise Ireland give grants to businesses with strong export potential - there seems to be a lot of competition for these. Local authority enterprise boards also give some grants.

A lot will depend on precisely what new business you're talking about. If you want to be more specific, you'll get a much better answer.

I heard recently that there are over 52 grant agencies in Ireland assisting start-ups. It often depends on your location, product/service and customers. However, the local EB are a good starting point

I'd presume there are no grants available for that type of business as it would give you an unfair advantage over existing electrical contractors.

There may be tax breaks for starting a company that intends to re-invest the profit and grow the business but that's about all.

    Hallo there,
I'm starting up a new business, coppicing woodland for firewood and other native timber products ( such as beanpoles, fencing stakes etc.) I'm just wondering if there are any grants I might avail of to get started. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

    Hi there,
I was in Enterprise Ireland today myself - they advised that they give out Priming (start up) grants, don't know if you'd qualify but you could ask. Up to 80K, towards capital assets (your machinery??) or employment.
