I heard on the radio yesterday that the ISS would be over Ireland at about 10 last night so went out for a look and at that time I saw what I assumed was the ISS travelling from the southern sky northward, was this it?
If it was it at the same time I briefly saw someting which looked similar travelling in the opposie direction, any one know what this might have been?

    Probably a satellite

You can get the viewing times here (although this damn cloud isn't going to help :()

Thanks for the link, it will be very useful. I was wondering though the approach and departure seem different to what I saw, now I may not understand the information but I definately saw it approaching from what I would call SSE and travel NNE, as you would look sky ward it traveled across The Plough.

ISS didn't go through the plough last night.

Here's a list of all the satellites you might have seen. Click on the time to see the track. At 22:02:51 there's a Cosmos rocket following the path you describe, and there are several more in or about that time travelling in other directions.

Thanks very much thats an excellent link and I found both objects I was looking at.

The first one is what I thought was the ISS and I quite clearly saw it over almost the entire sky.

Worth keeping an eye out for the ISS, as it is enormously brighter than either of those.

Was out stargazing last night around 10pm looking at Saturn and i saw a bright object pass above Saturn from a southerly direction. Thought it was the ISS as it was very bright. Checked Stellarium and right enough it was the ISS. Due to make a pass again tonight around 9pm when its low in the sky and a better chance to see at 10.34pm from a WSW direction.

When you do see it, it is unmistakeable. Lots of threads are regularly posted about it and we always put a few good links up for it. Heavens Above and NASA have already been put up, and here is another good one I always post in ISS threads. Add the others and this one to your favourites.

    Real Time Satellite Tracking

It is predicting a lot of good passes with a really good one on Wednesday, the 27th, at about 20:44.

The 23.27 pass was excellent from up here in the NW. even with some light pollution it was unmistakable. Hope tomorrows 22.16 pass is cloud free :)
