Sky satellite issues with numerous channels

Having satellite issues with channels at home. No satellite signal is being received on some channels. It's anywhere up to 30 channels afffected by this, in particular for me- Sky Sports 2 & 3.

Says to unplug the box from the mains, then plug it back in, wait 5 mins before trying again.
I do this, they appear for 2 or 3 minutes, but the same notice comes up again. I possibly get more out of a channel if I have it on(got 10 mins out of El Classico last night)

If the fault still persists, contact customer services- have done this, not very helpful mind you. Got as far as 'hold back-up, plug in, wait until lights flash) but he'd hung up when I'd gotten back downstairs(and there was nio sign of lights flashing either).

Connection seems fine(cables at back) have cleaned the viewing card etc, still no joy.

    Any other suggestions?

can you give me a rough list of the channels affected, go through them all and make some sort of a list, can tell a lot from this type of list, also don't do a software download (press back up e.t.c') as sky told you, not just yet, first I need to know how much signal you are getting form the transponder/frequency that updates the software, so hold off on that,
I want you to press services on your sky remote, then on the menu system set up, then on the menu signal test, i would like you to tell me , roughly in percentages, how much signal strength and signal quality there is,
i will be here a little later

What kind of Sky box is this?

If it was a Pace HD box, one might suspect a faulty power supply.

I expect Rob will know more.

Have you a DECT (cordless) phone nearby ? These have been known to cause problems like this, although the amount of channels you have affected may preclude this. Try unplugging the phone momentarily and see if the problem persists.

Straight away looking at your list it tells me your dish is slightly "out", all these channels come from the Eurobird 1 satellite, which is problematic at times, it's quicker to look at my site http://robssatellitetv.webs.com it explains all about Eurobird 1 reception in the "UKTV in the UK and Europe" section
the strength and quality readings dont help me cos it just gives the one reading for the EPG frequency, it does not tell me individual channels signals. dont think it's DECT as the frequency that would be most affected by this, those channels you have not listed, it's your dish, it needs slight realignment.
if you are behind the dish looking along the feedarm towards the LNB on the end, a slight movement of the dish to the LEFT should do it, but dont move it too much otherwise you will lose it all, only slight movements, you have a sky box so looking at the signal meter is not really an option, just a slight movement, if it's not fixed it or you you are in doubt put it back how it was and come back to me
