Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just throwing it out there folks.......

What are punters looking for these days when signing up for a Golf Classic to support their local cause and how important are items such as price, course, dinner, bag of goodies, shotgun start, group size, day of week etc etc?

Keep the bandits at the gate.

Use to sicken me the amount of bandits that would turn up at a classic.

The crazy scores you would see from "he hardly ever plays" people is a disgrace.

People with gui's winning and never reporting them to their clubs.

use to leave a bitter taste in my mouth

    What punters want :
PRICE has to be low as possible these days.

Date can be crucial.Make sure your not clashing with the local Communion/confirmation,Heineken cup final or some other event.

Location has to be close and a decent course.

    What organisers want:

The course: Usually the best course is the one who will donate their timesheet to you.Which should be your local course.Or at least do the best deal.

Sat/Sun are the best days or a Bank holiday Mon.
    After that Friday afternoon.

Bag of goodies: your local shop will supply you with some/all stuff for free (They will hit their suppliers...Well I do :) ) so you might as well have the bottle of water piece of fruit and perhaps a Muesli bar (Choc melting ruins your bag!)

    I'd go for a fourball.

When running local charity golf classics you will have a % of guys playing who dont normally play golf.

    Format:Scramble if allowed or Rumble.

    Non-GUI players:
Perhaps give men 18 and women 28.
The guy handing out the cards should do some investiating here.
If you have a society h'cap and it's lower than 18/36 make them play off that.
Or ask them what their best round is and then *Wham* give them their 9 h'cap ;)

Shotgun start really depends on what the golf course is willing to do,
and how many teams you have.

A great positive of a shotgun start is you get everyone in at same time for the meal and then you can have presentation. With the crowd you can sell tickets for a raffle and/or have an auction etc.

Having a set time for your Tee off (shotgun start) could turn off potential punters though and limit numbers.

Prizes dont really attract punters as most people who support a local cause wouldnt even be aware what the prizes are till the presentation.
