It's nice being at one of the overlapping ages between two of your brackets - bet everyone chooses the lower option in that case! :)

No, you're either above it or below it. Except for that infinitesimally small amount of time when you're the exact age.

No cheating or bending time allowed.

No, if you're 25, or 30, or any of the those other ages, you could fit into 25-30 OR 30-35, no cheating necessary :)

like the poll. was asking stephen roche the other day what the profile of the average person who went to his camp was. he said about our age. (45-55). i said i noticed that a lot of the riders at sportives in ireland were older rather than younger. i wonder if the young ones just like to go fast in short bits and riding for more than four hours would be too much time outta their busy days

Great idea for a poll. Some interesting stats there.

For the purposes of categorisation we are assumed to have a 1 January birthday. For example, on the face of it you become a vet when aged 40, but it's actually on 1 January in the calendar year in which you become 40, and you can race in the vets when aged 39 (although I understand someone who was 38 tried turned up to one race this year - he was told to come back when he's a bit more mature). Hence anyone who is 40 during 2011 should fall into the 40-50 category;)

(cyclists are treated the same as horses!)

It's not surprising a lot of people get into cycling, or keep up their interest in cycling after 45.
I'm 38, and all of a sudden, I'm not good enough to play on a soccer or GAA team anymore. Cycling fills a gap as a great outdoor aerobic workout, and you get to see a lot of things too. Also gets me to work quickly.

I didn't own a bike until I was 30, and with a little luck, I'm looking forwarding to cycling a lot well into the future.

    52.

Frightening to see myself in the 50 -60 age group for the first time.

maybe as we get older we start to realize the value of fitness. when i was younger i was just fit all the time. sense of immortality. i bought a decent bike and started riding again after 50. now i suck at climbing and can go forever on the flat at a good clip. working on those hills though. want to do tourmalet and alp d'huez this year

Like a good many I know, I had to quit footie because I just kept getting injured. Old injuries started to be a problem etc. Cycling helps with that, and also when time is a problem, cycling to work get a workout out in time thats usually lost commuting. Its also kinda filling a gap left from the sports I'm not doing anymore.

Was there ever a poll on the male/female ratio here?

I'd search but I'm on my phone &....meh. Male dominated I'd say but it'd be interesting to see by how much

No No No, to the nearest measurable unit for us:
    you're 24Years, 364Days, 23hours, 59Mins,59secs....old Under,
    then 25Years, 0Days, 0hours, 0Mins, 0secs.... old
    then 25Years, 0Days, 0hours, 0Mins, 1secs.... old OVER,

I suppose it should be IF(LowLim =< Your Age < HighLim) THEN tick option.

    no it isn't!!!!
    24 years + 11 months + 364 days + 23 hours + 59 minutes + 59 seconds = 26 years minus a month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,627 ✭✭✭Lawrence1895

Jesus, I programmed some time based functions for a machine in a pharmaceutical plant a few weeks ago. I really must re-check them before it goes to site.

Beaten in a race this morning by someone 19 years older than me (he was 5th in one of the vets races, and that's probably the 4th of 5th bunch sprint he's been placed in already this year) - another week and we would need an over 70 category for him

He doesn't have time for boards though - too busy training;)
